Finalists and Winner: 2013 FBS All-Bilo Punter of the Year

The 2013 FBS Punter of the Year is one of our final two special teams awards given in 2013, and may have been our closest point tally yet amongst the finalists of any award given for this season. Here are our finalists:

Justin Manton-UL-Monroe
Zac Murphy-Miami (Ohio)
Austin Rehkow-Idaho

Obviously, this award is dictated by not only the quality of work, but by the volume as well. Because of the horrible seasons that Idaho and Miami (Ohio) both had, of course their punters would get insane amounts of work in per game. On the other hand, ULM  had a decent season, especially in the second half of the year, but Manton got a huge workload as well.
The winner of the 2013 FBS All-Bilo Punter of the Year Award is...



Zac Murphy, Miami (Ohio)
This vote came down to a difference of a miniscule 40 points, with Murphy scoring 199710 points to hold off UL-Monroe's Manton. Murphy made the best of a horrible season by his teammates by averaging 46.61 yards per punt on the year on a whopping 79 punts, or 6.6 punts per game. Murphy's 3662 yards led the nation in 2013, and he averaged 306.8 yards per game in what was a very busy season for him. Congratulations to Zac Murphy and to the Miami Program!

Finalists and Winner: 2013 FBS All-Bilo Kick Returner of the Year

We continue our special teams section of our FBS Awards Season in 2013, by awarding our 2013 FBS All-Bilo Kick Returner of the Year Award. Here are our finalists for 2013:

The winner of the 2013 award was quite busy in 2013, and led the nation in return yards for the season. Again, this was a bit challenging to pick a winner from the bunch, but in the end, the winner is...



Carlos Wiggins-New Mexico
As I stated above, Wiggins led the nation with 1315 yards on 44 returns in 2013. Wiggins averaged 29.89 yards per return on the year, and returned 3 kicks for TDs, while averaging 3.7 returns per game and a national best 109.6 yards per game. Congratulations to Carlos Wiggins and to the New Mexico Program!

As we continue our Awards Season, we now leave the offense and head on to special teams. Here are our finalists for our 2013 FBS All-Bilo Punt Returner of the Year:

Our winner had a huge season, and was a risk to break one loose for a score every time someone was crazy enough to actually kick to him. And our winner is:



Ryan Switzer-North Carolina
Switzer was a massive threat on punt returns in 2013, returning 5 punts for TDs on the season. Switzer returned 24 punts on the season, returning one for a score every 4.8 times he touched the ball on punts. He racked up 502 yards in returns this season, averaging 20.92 yards per return, and 38.6 yards per game. Congratulations to Ryan Switzer and to the North Carolina Program!

Finalists and Winner: 2013 All-Bilo Tight End of the Year

The TE position has been devalued across football, but there are a few in the game that really do stand out. In the case of our FBS award for TE of the Year, I have named all four of our semi-finalists as finalists as well. Here they are:

The winner of this year's award had a season unseen by most TE's in the history of the game. He is no simple WR playing TE, as he looks like he belongs in the position physically. The winner of the 2013 FBS All-Bilo Tight End of the Year Award is:



Jace Amaro-Texas Tech
Amaro had a season that can be called nothing other than ridiculous at the TE position in 2013, having caught 106 passes for 1352 yards. His 106 receptions ranked 7th in FBS, while his yardage ranked 11th. He averaged a stunning 12.52 yards per catch, while averaging 8.2 receptions per game. He scored 7 TDs on the season in helping lead the Red Raiders to a birth in the Holiday Bowl, where the Red Raiders defeated Arizona State. Congratulations to Jace Amaro and to the Texas Tech Program!

Finalists and Winner: 2013 FBS All-Bilo Wide Receiver of the Year

Our 2013 Award Season continues with our 2013 All-Bilo WR of the Year Award. It was a huge season for so many receivers across the country, and it was one of the most difficult awards to decide. 42 receivers finished with over 1000 yards receiving in FBS football in 2013, a huge accomplishment by so many receivers. Here are our finalists for our 2013 WR of the Year in FBS football:

Brandin Cooks-Oregon State
Davante Adams-Fresno State
Willie Snead-Ball State

This was a difficult pick this season, as there were many different ways to look at this position. It was a fantastic season for so many, but one stood out at the end for a truly amazing season. The winner of our 2013 FBS Wide Receiver of the Year Award is:



Brandin Cooks-Oregon State
Cooks narrowly edged out Davante Adams of Fresno State for our award this season, but it was well deserved. Cooks led the nation with 1730 receiving yards on the season, also leading the country with an average of 133.1 yards per game. Cooks finished with 128 receptions, which was second nationally. Cooks averaged 13.52 yards per catch, and scored 16 times on the season, and also averaged 9.8 catches per game. Congratulations to Brandin Cooks and to the Oregon State Program!

Finalists and Winner: 2013 FBS All-Bilo Running Back of the Year

We continue our awards season with our 2013 FBS All-Bilo Running Back of the Year Finalists and Winner. It was a huge year for RBs in FBS football, with a season full of guys who ran for 20 TDs or more for the year. Our finalists are:

The numbers were much closer than our QB of the Year numbers ended up being, but the winner is incredibly deserving for having a season that has rarely been seen before. As a matter of fact, the winner had the kind of year seen only 6 times in the history of college football. Without further delay, the winner of our 2013 FBS Running Back of the Year Award is...



Andre Williams-Boston College
Williams was just the 6th Running Back in FBS (1-A) history to run for over 2000 yards in a single season, and tabbed 395 yards in one game against New Mexico State. Williams led the nation in carries (355), yards (2177), and yards per game (167.46). Williams added 18 TDs, and averaged 6.13 yards per carry on 27.31 carries per game. A true workhorse back with power, Williams had a season not soon to be forgotten at BC or elsewhere, and would have received my vote for the Heisman in 2013. Congratulations to Andre Williams and to the Boston College Program!

Finalists and Winner: 2013 FBS All-Bilo QB of the Year

The time has finally come to name our finalists and winner of our 2013 FBS Quarterback of the Year Award! First of all, here are our finalists for this year's award:

Johnny Manziel-Texas A&M

All three quarterbacks amongst our finalists made major cases to win the award in 2013, but one stood out amongst the group for his entire body of work for the 2013 season. As always, one must remember that our award is given based on that entire body of work, and is based on the performance of the individual. It is not voted upon, and is based on statistical compilation for the entire season. In short, this is not a popularity contest, such as what the Heisman has turned into, but is based on pure statistics.
Without further delay, the winner of the 2013 FBS All-Bilo QB of the Year Award is:



Derek Carr-Fresno State
Carr finished in the top ten in seven different major statistical categories in 2013, and led the nation in passing yards (5083), completions (454), touchdown passes (50), and yards per game (391.0). He finished second nationally in passing attempts (659) and attempts per game (50.7). Fresno State rested on Carr's arm all the way through the season, and the Bulldogs were in contention for a BCS birth until the final game of the regular season before an unfortunate loss at San Jose State. Despite attempting 659 passes, he finished with just 8 INTs on the year, or just one pick every 82.375 passes.
