FBS MVP Candidates-RB

Here are my top RB picks so far this season in the FBS

1. Kendell Hunter-Oklahoma State
Hunter has rushed for almost 158 yards per game in 2010, with 6 scores in 3 games. Don't be surprised if you see him bust the 20 TD plateau this season. Heisman dark horse here...don't count him out.

2. Daniel Thomas-Kansas State
Thomas has rushed for 157 yards this season, and is primarily responsible for the offensive side in keeping K-State at 4-0. He did step back a bit last weekend, as he was held to 75 yards by UCF, but that game was played in awful weather.

3. LaMichael James-Oregon
James didn't play in game one against New Mexico, but the Ducks didn't need him. He has been insane ever since, rushing for just under 152 yards per game with 4 scores in just 3 games of action.

4. Ronnie Hillman-San Diego State
QB Ryan Lindley gets a lot of the attention in partyville USA, but Hillman has taken a bunch of pressure off of him with some spectacular performances. Best of all, nobody had heard of him outside of the Mountain West before this season.

5. Bobby Rainey- Western Kentucky
The Hilltoppers are just absolutely awful, but imagine how much worse they would be without a start back like Rainey. Wish he was with a better team.

Honorable Mention

Bryce Beall-Houston...9 TDs so far, will keep the pressure off of young QB Terrence Broadway.
DeMarco Murray-Oklahoma...Scoring machine needs to get the ball in the 4th to kill clock.
Le'Veon Bell/Edwin Baker-Michigan State...If these guys could be morphed into one...wow.
John Clay-Wisconsin...He does everything that Badgers need him to do, but rest of offense has to be better.
Adam Robinson-Iowa...It's all on him now withall of the injuries.

FBS MVP Candidates-QB

Here are the top 5 candidates for our QB of the Year Award. These players have great stats to back them up, but also meant the most to their team in piling up these numbers. Expect fluxuations as the season progresses. These players are not numbered in any order, and you will have a chance to vote in polls that we will place here on the blog next week.

1. Denard Robinson-Michigan
Shoelace has been carrying the Wolverines on his back all season long. His average of 182 yards per game through the air don't mean much, but when you add his rushing totals of 172 per game and 6 scores, to go with his 4 passing TDs, you have to realize what Robinson means to the Wolverines right now. Definite Heisman front runner at this point, but here comes Big 10 play, and remember, we thought that Tate Forcier would be beating the world this time last season.

2. Cameron Newton-Auburn
And to think that Florida could still have this guy. Damn that Tim Tebow...
Newton is ruhing for 125 yards a game with 5 scores, and is averaging 170 through the air. He has scored a total of 14 TDs in 4 games, and he has saved Auburn's ass big time with his drives from behind. Auburn would not be 4-0 with any other QB taking the snaps right now.

3. Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State
Zac who? That has to be what people in Stillwater are thinking with Weeden taking the snaps. He has been amazing this season in Dana Holgerson's offense, averaging 325 yards per game with 11 TDs against just 2 picks. This guy has serious moxey, and The Cowboys are going places with him, and his partner in crime, Kendell Hunter.

4. Brian Moniz-Hawaii
Moniz has been stellar in keeping Hawaii afloat in 2010. He was having a monster of a game against USC before going down to injury, but he has been incredible ever since, averaging 334 yard per game with 11 TDs. He is the key to keeping Hawaii relevant in 2010, and his output could earn Hawaii a bowl birth.

5. Russell Wilson-NC State
Wilson has been a beast in 2010, and has completely taken the reins of this offense. His TD/INT ratio is 11/1 and he ran for a score against Georgia Tech last weekend to put the game away. He may wind up being one of the first QBs to go in the NFL draft next spring.

6. Colin Kaepernick-Nevada
I had to break my own rule of 5 to add Kaepernick on. He is a treat to watch as he runs the pistol to perfection, and his passing game is coming along in leaps and bounds, as his rushing game was always stellar. He has scored 15 TDs in just 4 games, and is becoming one of my favorite players in the game.

Honorable Mention
Terrence Cain-Utah...Has kept the Utes together during Jordan Wynn's injury related absence from the lineup...will give up the job when Wynn's thumb is better.

Dan Persa-Northwestern...Persa has the Wildcats at 4-0 and climbing in the PRS. He is very productive in the spread read option offense and his TD/Pick ratio is 8/1.

Ricky Stanzi-Iowa...Stanzi is having a solid season, but the loss at Arizona has hurt him slightly. He is working with a banged up RB corps, so people are more likely to key in on the pass.

Ryan Colburn-Fresno State...Colburn has kept the Bulldogs from diving into an offensive black hole after the loss of Ryan Matthews after last season. Colburn could be the most productive Fresno QB in some time, and there have been some good ones that have come through there.

Andrew Luck-Stanford...Luck has been a stud for Jim Harbaugh. He is stamping his star status every weekend, and is only going to get better. He is living proof that Jake Locker is not the best QB in the conference.

Week 5 Saturday Preview-Games of the Week

Here they are...your games of the week for week 5 of the 2010 season...

GAME OF THE WEEK
Wisconsin (4-0) at Michigan State (4-0)
Vegas Line: PK
Mark Dantonio will be back coaching from the press box this weekend. I hope that he doesn't have to make any last second thriller calls this week.
Badger QB Scott Tolzien has improved after a tough start, as he now has 5 TDs to 2 picks in 4 games. John Clay is kicking it into gear with 501 yards and 6 scores. The WR corps has had some injury issues, with Nick Toon missing significant time to injury. No worries as Lance Kendricks has been the go to guy in the passing game, with 17 catches for 299 yards and 3 scores. The defense has not had many picks, but they have held their opponents to under 16 points per game.
For the Spartans, it's been the Bell and Baker show. Edwin baker has rushed for 112.25 yards per game with 5 scores, while Le'Veon Bell has rushed for 99 yards per game with 7 scores. Add that production to Kirk Cousins' 215.8 yards per game, and you will see a multiheaeded monster that has been beyond difficult to stop.
The Spartans gave up 31 points to Notre Dame, and 38 to their other 3 opponents combined. The defense has forced 6 picks with LB Greg Jones averaging 8.25 tackles per game.
I pick: The return of Mark Dantonio this weekend should be enough to super charge the Spartans, and they look like the team to beat on Staurday. I'll take MSU, and Wisconsin's pretender status will be certified.

The Best of the Rest

Michigan (4-0) at Indiana (3-0)
Vegas Line: UM -10.5
Indiana has had their typical cupcake non-conference slate to feast on, but now come the first real challenge for QB Ben Chappell and company. Both teams have a big habit of starting their losing ways right about...now, so this is a very important game for both to get off to a solid start in Big 10 play.
I pick: Michigan...Denard Robinson could win this game all by himself, but he'll have to watch the knee.

Texas (3-1) at Oklahoma (4-0)
Vegas Line: OU -4
Texas can't be quite as bad as they were against UCLA, but Oklahoma has been winning in less than Sooner-like ways this season. Both teams have a lot to work on coming into this game, with Texas needing to find decent QB and RB play, while also needing to learn how to tackle running backs. OU needs to put people away and keep them there.
I pick: OU...Landry Jones, DeMarco Murray far outclass any of the skill position guys that Texas has right now. If OU gets an early lead, it will be interesting to see if they can put them away in the 4th.

Stanford (4-0) at Oregon (4-0)
Vegas Line: Oregon -6
It would be easy to dismiss Stanford as they travel into loud and hostile Eugene, but this team is coached by Jim Harbaugh, and you cannot dismiss him easily. Stanford will be well prepared, and they have the talent to compete against the Ducks.
Oregon is favored, and Chip Kelly signed a huge contract extension this week, so the Ducks are likely expected to celebrate the new deal with a win at home. Darrin Thomas will need to have a huge game at QB, which means don't make bad throws, and get the ball to LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner.
Both teams love to score, so watch out for defensive lapses, as both teams are capable of the huge play downfield.
I pick: Oregon at home, but it can really go either way.

Florida (4-0) at Alabama (4-0)
Vegas Line: Alabama -7
Most folks feel that this is the SEC title game preview, and at this point, I'd have to agree. Both Kentucky and South Carolina had their chances to keep pace last weekend, and both blew it, leaving the Gators at the head of the East. Florida may slip back to join them this week, as I have to be honest, but I don't see Alabama losing this game this weekend. The Tide has owned the top spot for 10 of the last 14 weeks in the PRS, and Saban has risen to the top of the game.
I pick: Alabama...The Tide is just better right now...Florida may give them a run in the SEC title game.

Penn State (3-1) at Iowa (3-1)
Vegas Line: Iowa -7
QB Play will be the difference, and that means that Iowa has the edge. Ricky Stanzi has to play mistake free football, and will probably be shouldering a bigger load with the depth issues at RB due to injury. Penn State will make a game of it going into the 4th, but this is not their year.
I pick: Iowa

Week 5 Saturday Preview-Part 2

There could be some hidden gems in this bucket...

Temple (3-1) at Army (3-1)
Vegas Line: Temple -6
The Owls are coming off of a tough loss to Penn State. Army is ranked in the PRS at #25 for the first time ever. If Temple RB Bernard Pierce can't get his ankle right, Army could shut the Owls down on offense.
I pick: Army, especially if Pierce is not available.

Florida State (3-1) at Virginia (2-1)
Vegas Line: FSU -12
OK, UVA has 2 wins over FCS opponents (Richmond, VMI), but FSU has had problems with the Cavs before, and UVA didn't look half bad against USC on the road.
I pick: FSU, but they had better be focused.

Miami (2-1) at Clemson (2-1)
Vegas Line: Miami -3
The loser could fall out of the ACC race early, with the winner gaining a solid jump. Unfortunately, the Tigers don't have Miami's talent.
I pick: Miami

Kansas (2-2) at Baylor (3-1)
Vegas Line: Baylor -5
Will the real Kansas please stand up? Baylor has to be highly aware of the dual nature of the Kansas football team in 2010. Will it be the team that beat Georgia Tech, or the team that lost to North Dakota State and Southern Miss?
I pick: Baylor...Robert Griffin will make the question a non issues all by himself.

Northwestern (4-0) at Minnesota (1-3)
Vegas Line: NW -4
Just tune in to see Tim Brewster squirm for his job...if you're sick  in the head anyway...but that's ok.
I pick: NW

Kentucky (3-1) at Ole Miss (2-2)
Vegas Line: Ole Miss -4
This could be two teams going in different directions after last week. Ole Miss is favored at home, and if UK loses this game, their season is a mid tier bowl destination at best. Lots of desperation here.
I pick: Ole Miss...UK can't stop the run, and that's exactly what the Rebels will do.

Kent State (1-2) at Miami (Oh) (2-2)
Vegas Line: PK
Again, a desperation game as both teams need a win to stay in the MAC race. This game will be a turning point for whoever wins.
I pick: Miami

Navy (2-1) at Air Force (3-1)
Vegas Line: AF -7
This game is always a great time, and it always feels like a throw back with both teams running the option. This will be a solid watch.
I pick: AF

Virginia Tech (2-2) at NC State (4-0)
Vegas Line: Tech -3
Tech is slowly climbing out of the grave that they had dug themselves into early. The Pack is trying to prove that they belong in the ACC title conversation. This will be a blood bath.
I pick: Tech

East Carolina (2-1) at North Carolina (1-2)
Vegas Line: UNC -17
UNC had more major bad news today with the cheating scandal that has torn the team apart. This distraction has to start burning the Heels up at some point.
I pick: UPSET ALERT!!! ECU gets a big road win.

Tennessee (2-2) at LSU (4-0)
Vegas Line: LSU -16
Tennessee really didn't play that badly against Florida, and LSU is having some struggles offensively. I wouldn't want to play that LSU defense, though.
I pick: LSU

Arizona State (2-2) at Oregon State (1-2)
Vegas Line: OSU -6
Anyone care to see the beginning of the end of Dennis Erickson's mercenary career? See it in Corvallis on Saturday.
I pick: OSU

Tulsa (2-2) at Memphis (1-3)
Vegas Line: Tulsa -13.5
Tulsa has a tendency to blow games like this, and Memphis seems to be showing signs of getting better every week. Look out!!!
I pick: Tulsa...but be wary...

Wyoming (1-3) at Toledo (3-1)
Vegas Line: Toledo -4
Watch out for the Toledo hangover after the Purdue upset, and the Cowboys are desperate...
I pick: Toledo, but again, be wary of the upset.

Georgia Tech (2-2) at Wake Forest (2-2)
Vegas Line: GT -14
The loser of this game is done for the year. Stakes are high.
I pick: Tech

Georgia (1-3) at Colorado (2-1)
Vegas Line: UGA -2
The losing coach gets fired first, but both may get the axe before it's over with this season.
I pick: UGA...better athletes, and even more desperate.

Texas Tech (2-1) at Iowa State (2-2)
Vegas Line: Tech -4
Tech needs a bounce back win, but ISU is looking for a big upset win at home against an exposed Red Raider offense.
I pick: Tech...but there will be a price to pay.

Marshall (1-3) at Southern Miss (3-1)
Vegas Line: USM -9
Marshall has been close this season to getting a big win, and this Eagle team may be in line to be upset.
I pick: Southern Miss, but not if they start playing like individuals rather than a team again.

Notre Dame (1-3) at Boston College (2-1)
Vegas Line: ND -1.5
If ND is going to turn this ship around, now would be a good time to start.
I pick: ND

Washington (1-2) at USC (4-0)
Vegas Line: USC -11.5
SC gets revenge from last season's shocker in Seattle. Jake Locker falls in the draft even more this week.
I pick: USC

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Week 5 Saturday Preview-Part 1

Have a chance to go clean a landfill with a toothbrush? Take it over watching these yawn class games...

Ohio (1-3) at Eastern Michigan (0-4)
Vegas Line: Ohio -9
The Bobcats of Ohio could be 2-2 right now, but Frank Solich threw away a perfect chance at a trip to OT where they surely would have had a shot at being Marshall. EMU has not challenged anyone, and merely playing a close game is a shock these days.
I pick: Ohio

Vanderbilt (1-2) at UConn (2-2)
Vegas Line: UConn -10.5
Call this the irrelevant bowl 2010. Neither of these teams is headed anywhere this season.
I pick: UConn at home...I guess

Ohio State (4-0) at Illinois (2-1)
Vegas Line: OSU -20
Does anyone actually think that the Illini have half of a shot here?
I pick: OSU

Alcorn State (3-0) at Mississippi State (2-2)
Vegas Line: None
ASU is having their best season since Steve McNair was the QB, but they are nowhere near in a class that could actually show up the Bulldogs.
I pick: MSU

UL-Monroe (1-2) at Auburn (4-0)
Vegas Line: Auburn -30
Todd Berry can't even dream of taking a team into Jordan-Hare and winning. Dream on.
I pick: Auburn

TCU (4-0) at Colorado State (1-3)
Vegas Line: TCU -30
All of the feel good energy from CSU's win over Idaho should evaporate on Saturday when the Frogs come to town.
I pick: TCU

Idaho (2-2) at Western Michigan (1-2)
Vegas Line: WMU -2
Things have gotten bad in Moscow when the underachieving Broncos are the favored team. I am not buying it.
I pick: Idaho...get it back on track!!!

Tulane (1-2) at Rutgers (2-1)
Vegas Line: Rutgers -20
Public Service Announcement: If you are gambling real money on this game, please seek help now. You have a problem, but there are people that can help. I am not even sure either of these teams can score 20 anyway.
I pick: Rutgers...and if you do bet, take the under...

Buffalo (1-3) at Bowling Green (1-3)
Vegas Line: BG -5
This is a MAC slopfest if I have ever seen one...but then again, there may at least be some offense...
I pick: Buffalo

Ball State (1-3) at Central Michigan (2-2)
Vegas Line: CMU -17
Any tilt involving Ball Sweat...I mean State...is a no watch for me. What a horrible team.
I pick: CMU

FIU (0-3) at Pittsburgh (1-2)
Vegas Line: Pitt -16
Do you think that Dion Lewis will be able to run against these guys?
I pick: Pitt

Washington State (0-4) at UCLA (2-2)
Vegas Line: UCLA -28
This will be ugly, and if UCLA struggles at all on offense, it will be just ugly to watch.
I pick: UCLA

Northern Illinois (2-2) at Akron (0-4)
Vegas Line: NIU -14
Chad Spann busted over 200 yards rushing against Minnesota, imagine what hell do to the Zips?
I pick: NIU

Duke (1-3) at Maryland (3-1)
Vegas Line: Maryland -10
Friedgen is coaching for his life this season, and there will not be any blowing it against the Blue Devils.

UTEP (3-1) at New Mexico (0-4)
Vegas Line: UTEP -15
15 points is a gift against someone who's closest loss was 35 points this season. Miners roll.
I pick: UTEP

SMU (2-2) at Rice (1-3)
Vegas Line: SMU -9.5
SMU is looking to kick some ass after a frustrating week against TCU. Rice provides the ass to kick.
I pick: SMU

Louisville (1-2) at Arkansas State (1-3)
Vegas Line: Louisville -6.5
Watch the highlight reel of ASU QB Ryan Aplin and nothing else.
I pick: UPSET ALERT!!! ASU.

Florida Atlantic (1-2) at South Florida (2-1)
Vegas Line: USF -20
This game holds no sway in state, much less out of it. Not much buzz about this game.
I pick: USF

Louisiana-Lafayette (1-2) at North Texas (1-3)
Vegas Line: UNT -3
Could Todd Dodge swim out of the dead pool and knock Ricky Bustle into it to replace him?
I pick: ULL

UC-Davis (1-3) at San Jose State (1-3)
Vegas Line: None
Unwatchable...like almost every San Jose State game.
I pick: UPSET ALERT!!! UCD

Boise State (3-0) at New Mexico State (0-3)
Vegas Line: Boise -37
That spread tells you all you need to know. No shot of an upset here...sorry Aggie fans.
I pick: Boise State

Nevada (4-0) at UNLV (1-3)
Vegas Line: UNR -21
This was the game that sealed Mike Sanford's fate at UNLV last season. It won't be much better this season, however UNLV's defense isn't half bad.
I pick: Nevada

Cal Poly (3-1) at Fresno State (2-1)
Vegas Line: None
Fresno will probably be playing pissed after what happened at Ole Miss...and that's bad for the Mustangs.
I pick: Fresno State

Louisiana Tech (1-3) at Hawaii (2-2)
Vegas Line: UH -6.5
Tech is supposed to have the big offense, but it will be the Rainbows who will be putting up the numbers.
I pick: Hawaii

Friday Preview 10/1

There is one game on the Friday slate for this week in the FBS. Here we go.

BYU (1-3) at Utah State (1-3)
Vegas Line: BYU -8
Time: 8PM (EST)

This is not a game that many people outside of the state of Utah will spend any time on, and being that I will be at a high school game here in Vegas, I won't be seeing this live either. Thank God for a DVR.
Utah State has a very nice player in Diondre Borel, but little else. BYU is going to struggle with freshman Jake Heaps at QB. Could this be the year that USU pulls a big upset at home?
I pick: BYU...The Cougars are not going to lose to USU...at least not if they want to go home after the game.

There will be no FCS Friday night game this week.

Assumption, fresh off of their upset win over FCS member Fordham, will take to the road to take on Southern Connecticut State in a D2 Friday night clash.

Quick Hits 9/29

Yahoo Sports is reporting that there is a money trail linking former assistant John Blake and agents.
Why is this a shock? Does anyone remember this douche when he was the head guy at Oklahoma? Butch Davis should be fired simply on the grounds that he allowed Blake anywhere near college kids.

According to Tom Dienhart, also of Yahoo Sports, the WAC is considering adding Montana, Texas State, and Texas-San Antonio as football members, with Denver and Seattle making pitches to join as hoops only members.
If the best play that the WAC'D has left is this lineup, than they are dead in the water. UTSA doesn't even have a team in play yet. When was the last time you remember a start up program starting up in the FBS? Not in the modern age...They should simply pull the plug and the remaining schools can join other leagues (CUSA, Mountain West) or they should drop down to the FCS.

Nick Saban reports that Marcell Dareus looks "pretty good" for the Florida game on Saturday.

The Big 12 has approved round robin play in conference games for 2011.

Boise State has suspended Winston Venable for the first half of this week's game at New Mexico State for committing a flagrant foul last week against Oregon State. Luckily his absence won't be an issue against the flailing Aggies.

TCU is being considered as a target for the Big East.
Now I have seen the truly preposterous. TCU is 900 miles away from the nearest Big East member (Louisville). Thanks, but get real.

AJ Green returns for Georgia against Colorado this Saturday.

No word yet on Purdue QB Robert Marve, as he is recovering from a knee injury suffered in the loss to Toledo.

The NCAA may have to change standards and rules to allow teams with losing records into Bowl Games.
Here's a resolution to that issue...STOP ADDING FUCKING BOWL GAMES!!! Seriously people, if you are hitting this blog daily, you probably love college football as much as I do, but this bullshit has got to stop. We need to boycott bowl's that are sponsored by some third rate fleabag hotel or over greased fast food chains that nobody has heard of outside of Tupelo. ENOUGH!!! Next up will be the Big Tony's Burger Stand I have the Shits Bowl, brought to you by TUMS.
Actually, keep it up...you're just adding ammo to the playoff argument, so thanks.

UNC-Charlotte will begin football play in 2013.
YESSSSS!!!! Finally...I have been hearing about this for a long time now. I applaud schools for taking the chance on football. Long Beach State...Cal State Fullerton...are you listening???

Tim Brewster believes that Minnesota should and could be 4-0 right now.
Fire him now before he hurts someone. Dude has gone fucking delusional.

BC is ditching Shinskie for Chase Rettig at QB
You have to feel badly for Shinskie, as he has taken a beating this season, but Virginia Tech players said that in watching the game films, that he had the tendency to fold in big games when the pressure was on. Outside of Matt Ryan, which BC QB hasn't done that in the last 10 to 20 years?

Florida RB Jeff Demps is probable for the Alabama game.

Boise State RB DJ Harper is out for the season. Harper was the 2nd leading rusher for the Broncos and led the team with 2 rushing TDs.

UConn QB Cody Endres gets the start this week for the Huskies.

Thursday Night Preview 9/30

There is only one game on tap for Thursday night in 1-A. Let's take a look at how it breaks down...

Texas A&M at Oklahoma State
Vegas Line: OSU -3
7:45 (EST) Kickoff

The Aggies took last weekend off. They barely survived a major scare at home the week before as they had trailed FIU 20-6 going into the 4th quarter. The Aggies found a way to make the win happen, and scored three TDs in the 4th to limp away 27-20.
What's Going Right
The offense is moving in the right direction, as the Aggies are dropping an average of 501.3 yards per game. Jerrod Johnson is passing for an average of 288.3 yards per game, and RB Christine Michael is rushing for 110.3 yards per game with 3 scores. Jeff Fuller and Ryan Swope have been the leades in the receiving corps with 18 and 21 grabs respectively, with Fuller hauling in 3 TDs.
Dustin Harris has returned a punt for a score, and is averaging 12.8 yards per return.
The defense has been solid up to this point, only allowing 69 yards rushing per game.
What's Not So Great
The rush D stat is misleading, as the Aggies have not played a strong rushing team yet. You almost have to look at the FIU game as a bit of an indicator that this team may have a tendency to lose focus, as they never should have trailed FIU at all. If you also look at their points allowed in 3 games, that total has gone up every single week, again, an indicator that the 3-0 record could be an illusion.
Jerrod Johnson has also been turnover prone, as he has tossed 4 picks in 3 games, and the offensive line has allowed him to be sacked 10 times in 3 games. Bad line play is most likely the reason for the 4 picks, but Johnson and the offensive staff have got to find a way to allow him to move the pocket on rollouts and bootlegs to keep defenses honest.

OSU also took the week off last weekend. The last time out was a gem for the Cowboys, having dismantled Tulsa 65-28. Several players have stepped up to fill big roles for the Cowboys, and even though they struggled somewhat against Troy, games against Tulsa and Washington State were open season routs.
What's Going Right
QB play has been a very nice surprise as Brandon Weeden has put up 325 yards per game and 11 scores against just two picks. He has only been sacked 3 times, as the line has been amazing, which has also opened some terrific opportunities for RB Kendell Hunter. Hunter has rushed for 473 yard in three games, avergaing 157.7 per with 6 TDs rushing in 3 games. WR Justin Blackmon is just one more player that has been off the hook, as he has 24 catches for 431 yards and 8 TDs.
What's Not So Great
The lightning style of offensive play has taken some heat off of this very average defense. They have given up 83 points in 3 games, and have allowed 8 TDs. With the Aggies holding big play potential, this D is going to have to have shored up some holes in practice to prevent this game from turning into an open field shootout.

What to Expect
Offense, offense, and more offense. Both teams have issues on D, and the Aggies have not seen a back like Hunter yet thhis season. OSU has the advantage of having played teams like Troy and Tulsa, who probably better resemble the style of play of the Aggies. A&M will get theor punches in, but will it be enough?

I Pick
Oklahoma State straight up and against the spread. This game will have lots of firework displays going off, and the scoreboard may even break, but OSU has the edge in Stilwater, and they have the edge in production. A&M will probably keep it close, but as I said, they have not seen a team like this yet.

There are 2 games in FCS action for Thursday as well. Let's take a look at what's going down there...

Hampton (2-1, 2-0) at Delaware State (0-3, 0-1)
Hampton has jumped out to a quick start in MEAC play since getting shutout by Central Michigan in the opner. The only problem there is that the Pirates have beaten up on Howard (#121 in the PRS) and North Carolina A&T (#120). Luckily, Delaware State ranks low as  well (#113). Look for Hampton to roll again. Cupcake up!!!
I Pick: Hampton

UT-Martin (1-3, 1-1) at Tennessee Tech (1-3, 0-1)
Both teams are desperate for a win in the Ohio Valley Conference. The loser may as well pack up and wrap it up for the year, but the winner will still be in desperate straights. UTM is coming off an embarrassing blowout loss to Murray State, while Tech is coming off of a very respectable loss to SE Missouri, who is ranked 9th this week in the PRS. If Tech can get the ball into the hands of RB Dontey Gray and WR Tim Benford, than they have a solid shot at taking the win, which they should at home.
I Pick: Tech

There are also two games in D2 action, one of which being a big time top 25 showdown.
#19 West Alabama at #14 Delta State
West Liberty at Fairmont State

Enjoy your Thursday night lineup wherever you may be!!!

1-A (FBS) PRS (Power Ratings System) Week 4

Welcome to the 4th release of the 1-A PRS for 2010. Not too many changes at the top, but some teams took a beating. Texas fell clear out of the top 25 after their thrashing by UCLA in Austin last week. Kentucky dropped to 24th. South Carolina and Arkansas fell out of the top 25 as well. New to the Power Rankings top 25 this week: Army, Kansas State, and Missouri.
Enjoy the PRS this week. Come back every Tuesday for the new release!

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0, 1127)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: defeated Arkansas 24-20
Points Gained: 278
This Week: #6 Florida
The Tide had a time of it at Arkansas last week, but the young D put up when it counted by picking Ryan Mallett 4 times. This week will be another true battle in Tuscaloosa, but the Tide has played a tougher schedule, and their offense and defense are clicking.
I pick: Bama has the edge here, as they will be more prepared.

2. LSU Tigers (4-0, 1109)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #1,  defeated West Virginia 20-14
Points Gained: 226
This Week: Tennessee
I knew that it would only be a matter of time before someone, namely Alabama, would overtake the Tigers at the top. LSU is winning ugly, but they are still winning. This week's game should bring an easy win. Jefferson is still the QB, for now.
I pick: LSU

3. Utah Runnin' Utes (4-0, 1063)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #3, defeated San Jose State 56-3
Points Gained: 259
This Week: IDLE
The Utes will slide a little by taking the week off, but that's ok...they will be back. This is a good chance for Jordan Wynn to get the thumb better, and will be a great chance for Terrence Cain to get more practice reps. What a dilemma to have two great QBs like the Utes have.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (4-0, 1026)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #4, defeated Eastern Michigan 73-20
Points Gained: 276
This Week: at Illinois
The Buckeyes must be licking their chops at the chance do drive a nail into Ron Zook's coaching coffin this week. There is no way that the llini can run with the Bucks this week.
I pick: Ohio State

5. USC Trojans (4-0, 960)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #10, defeated Washington State 50-16
Points Gained: 284
This Week: Washington
The Trojans feasted on WSU misery last Saturday up in Pullman, and now it's time for some nice and cold revenge against the Huskies this Saturday. Expect the Trojans to show no mercy as the Huskies plain suck on the road.
I pick: USC

6. Florida Gators (4-0, 945)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #11, defeated #24 Kentucky 48-14
Points Gained: 282
This Week: at #1 Alabama
Trey Burton, Jeff Demps...it doesn't matter who it is but someone always steps it up for the Gators. This week, several people had better step up, because I can promise you that the Tide will not let one player beat them. This game will be a war, but Florida isn't ready to play it just yet.
I pick: Bama

7. Auburn Tigers (4-0, 921)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #9, defeated #31 South Carolina 35-27
Points Gained: 243
This Week: UL-Monroe
I will go out on a limb here and say that I don't believe that Auburn will fall behind by double digits before they come back to beat the WarHawks this week. I don't think that this statement is a bad bet.
I pick: Auburn

8. Oklahoma Sooners (4-0, 918)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #8, defeated Cincinnati 31-29
Points Gained: 233
This Week: Texas (@ Dallas)
OU seems to be the cardiac kid reverse image of Auburn. Where Auburn falls behind early, and comes back late, OU goes up big early, and then tries to give the game away. OU has UT in a bad place this week, and they should kick them while they are down...HARD!!!
I pick: OU

9.Oregon Ducks (4-0, 899)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #12, defeated Arizona State 42-31
Points Gained: 253
This Week: #10 Stanford
Oh boy!!! You should not go anywhere on Saturday that does not include you seeing this game. The media is discounting Stanford's chances at upsetting the Ducks, but the Ducks got exposed defensively by Arizona State last week. If Oregon does not fix their issues, all of the offense in the world may not make a difference, as Stanford can dance with them all night.
I pick: I'll go with Oregon for now, but may change when the previews are posted depending on developments this week.

10. Stanford Cardinal (4-0, 877)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #16, defeated Notre Dame 37-14
Points Gained: 260
This Week: at #9 Oregon
What a battle in the Northwest this weekend. Stanford has every chance of pulling off the upset here and keeping their Rose Bowl hopes alive, if not more. I expect this game to come down to the end.
I pick: As I said, Oregon for now, but check back later.

11. TCU Horned Frogs (4-0, 832)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #18, defeated SMU 41-24
Points Gained: 258
This Week: at Colorado State
The game against CSU should allow the Frogs to climb back into the top 10 in next week's PRS. I don't see any issues about TCU not winning big in Fort Collins.
I pick: TCU

12. Boise State Broncos (3-0, 831)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #14, defeated Oregon State 37-24
Points Gained: 200
This Week: at New Mexico State
There are no real challenges on the schedule for quite some time now. Nevada in November should be a battle of unbeatens.
I pick: Boise State

13. Nevada Wolfpack (4-0, 785)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #19, defeated BYU 27-13
Points Gained: 241
This Week: at UNLV
Nevada simply dismantled the Rebels last year in Reno, and I am guessing that the same thing is about to go down about 15 minutes from my house at Sam Boyd Stadium this Saturday night.
Should be ugly.
I pick: Nevada

14. NC State Wolfpack (4-0, 729)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #24, defeated Georgia Tech 45-28
Points Gained: 262
This Week: Virginia Tech
This week may bring the brick wall that I have been waiting for all along for the Pack. Tech is angry and they are playing with fire right now. Russell Wilson has finally started to produce at a pace that was expected of him, so that may be the counter to Tech's mission.
I pick: What the hell...I'll stay with NC State until they beat me.

15. Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0, 709)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #7, IDLE
Points Gained: 0
This Week: #29 Texas A&M...Thursday
OSU got a week off and hopefully got some defensive items straightened out. The offense is just fine, and the Cowboys are not missing a beat with Brandon Weeden at QB. Kendell Hunter has been the real star as he is averaging 157 yards per game rushing.
I pick: OSU

16. Michigan Wolverines (4-0, 696)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #28, defeated Bowling Green 65-21
Points Gained: 259
This Week: at #26 Indiana
UM has to be somewhat conscious that this is when the team has begun to fold the last two seasons. This game may be the most important game that UM has played to date, just to clear their head of any impending curse of the Big 10 schedule under Rich Rodriguez. The best news of the week is that Denard Robinson will be able to play.
I pick: Michigan

17. Northwestern Wildcats (4-0, 691)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #22, defeated Central Michigan 30-25
Points Gained: 185
This Week: at Minnesota
The Wildcats have got to be pumped that they are in this position at this time of year. The major concern one has is how they allowed CMU to come back from a 30-13 deficit late, but the Chippewas are a damn good football team, and they'll do that to you. Minnesota has completely checked out as a football team, and so the Cats should be able to beat them up early and walk away with a win.
I pick: Northwestern

18. Wisconsin Badgers (4-0, 685)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #15, defeated Austin Peay 70-3
Points Gained: 63
This Week: at #22 Michigan State
Wisconsin may be the most underachieving 4-0 team in America. They have not dominated anyone other than Austin Peay, even San Jose State (only scored 27 and won by 13). This week, all of that may come crashing down on them in East Lansing. Whoever runs the ball better will win the game, but the home field equals the edge.
I pick: UPSET ALERT!!! Michigan State

19. Arizona Wildcats (4-0, 678)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #20, defeated California 10-9
Points Gained: 161
This Week: IDLE
You could almost feel the emotional letdown coming after the huge home win against Iowa last week. What was Cal's excuse on offense? The Cats get a week off before a trap game against Oregon State.

20. Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-0, 652)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #13, defeated South Dakota State 17-3
Points Gained: 14
This Week: IDLE
Bo Pelini was pissed off after the escape from the Jackrabbits at home last weekend. The team is going to be working very hard to get ready for Kansas State...very hard.

21. Missouri (4-0, 646)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #29, defeated Miami(Ohio) 51-13
Points Gained: 239
This Week: IDLE
Missouri has to feel pretty good going into the break coming off of the thrashing that they laid on Miami U. last weekend. There is some bad news as Jasper Simmons, a DB, was suspended for an indefinite period of time, and it is not due to legal issues. Simmons had not played due to injury since the opener against Illinois. We will post more news here as it becomes available.

22. Michigan State Spartans (4-0, 630)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #17, defeated Northern Colorado 45-7
Points Gained: 38
This Week: #18 Wisconsin
The best news ever...Mark Dantonio will be in the stadium and coaching from the press box two weeks after a mild heart attack and angioplasty. That is going to be huge in East Lansing, and there will be a ton of emotion.
I pick: Sparty!!!

23. Kansas State Wildcats (4-0, 569)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #30, defeated Central Florida 17-13
Points Gained: 171
This Week: IDLE
K-State was hit by the hand of God, and if you saw the pictures, you know what I mean. KSU is much better than anticipated, and even though the weather probably screwed up Daniel Thomas just a bit, he is still one of the best backs in the game.

24. Kentucky Wildcats (3-1, 542)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #6, lost to Florida 48-14
Points Lost: -170
This Week: at Ole Miss
UK really didn't have a shot at the swamp. This was a perfect opportunity to knock Florida from the top of the heap in the SEC east, but UK just does not have the same kind of fire power and never could find lightning in a bottle. They get a chance to get back in the game at home against the Rebels, but it's another road trip after a rough week. This could be dangerous.
I pick: UK, but watch for the upset.

25. Army Cadets (3-1, 507)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #36, defeated Duke 35-21
Points Gained: 249
This Week: Temple
The Cadets have been rolling since the strange loss to Hawaii. This week will bring a major test as to how good Army can be, as Temple rolls into town. The Owls may be in trouble if Bernard Pierce's ankle isn't right.
I pick: Army if Pierce is out, Temple if he's in.

KNOCKING ON THE DOOR
26. Indiana (3-0, 489)
27. Texas (3-1, 486)
28. Toledo (3-1, 482)
29. Texas A&M (3-0, 455)
30. San Diego State (3-1, 404)
31. South Carolina (3-1, 385)
32. Iowa (3-1, 353)
33. Air Force (3-1, 347)
34. Maryland (3-1, 338)
35. Baylor (3-1, 315)

1-AA PRS (Power Rankings System) Poll #4

Welcome to the 4th release of the 2010 Bilo Football Poll (PRS). Good luck to whomever you may be routing for this week. Once again, there were several fluctuations in the top 35. Alabama State plummeted out of the top 25 after falling to Alcorn State 41-21. Florida A&M took a nasty tumble out of the top 35 after falling upset victim to Tennessee State, who had been on a free fall coming into the game. Liberty was another casualty, after falling to #3 James Madison, as was South Dakota after falling to North Dakota State, who moved up to #11 this week. New teams into the top 25 include Alcorn State, Grambling, Yale, Texas State, Dartmouth, and Illinois State.

Here is the Bilo Football Poll for FCS (1-AA) in it's entirety:

 1. Jacksonville State Gamecocks (4-0, 999)
Last Week's Ranking/Result:  #1,defeated Eastern Illinois 28-23
Points Gained: 233
This Week: Murray State
JSU is just skating by so far in 2010, and they lead the nation in points on the graces of beating Ole Miss. With OVC play beginning, the Gamecocks will have to pick up their game some.
I pick: JSU

2. Appalachian State Mountaineers (4-0, 940)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #2, defeated Samford 35-17
Points Gained: 253
This Week: Elon
DeAndre Presley is driving the offense just fine, and the defense is clicking as well. ASU handled Elon with relative ease in 2009, so they should do so again.
I pick: ASU

3. James Madison Dukes (3-0, 782)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #4, defeated Liberty 10-3
Points Gained: 217
This Week: #8 Delaware
The Dukes had are in a brutal stretch in which they have one outright winnable game (against Towson next week). Eery other week is a coin toss for the foreseeable future. Luckily, they get Delaware at home.
I pick: JMU in a war.

4. Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (3-1, 744)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #9, defeated Lamar 71-3
Points Gained: 269
This Week: McNeese State
Since losing the opener to Texas A&M 48-7, the Jacks are averaging 51 points per game and have won 3 straight, including the thumper over the Cardinals last Saturday. QB Jeremy Moses is the star, averaging 298 yards per game and passing for 9 scores.
I pick: SFA...this was a close game last season, but the Lumberjacks are in a position to send a message in the league opener.

5. Delaware Blue Hens (4-0, 739)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #8, defeated Richmond 34-14
Points Gained: 255
This Week: at #3 James Madison
Andrew Pierce rushed for 114 yards in the win over Richmond, and the Hens will need that kind of production and more as they take their second straight brutal road trip to face the Dukes i a battle of top 10 teams. Pierce has rushed for 598 yards this season, and so he is the focal point of the offense. Defensively, the Hens are giving up 4.5 points per game.
I pick: JMU in a low scoring war.

6. Villanova Wildcats (3-1, 733)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #5, defeated Penn 22-10
Points Gained: 184
This Week: at #14 William & Mary
You have to give it to the Colonial, as the Cats are their 3rd entry into the top 10 this week. You also have to feel a bit badly for the Colonial teams as they all have to play each other throughout the season at some point. The Cats have another tough battle looming with a visit to Williamsburg coming up this week. Villanovoa has a balanced offense and a defense that is only giving up a shade less than 6 points per game in 1-AA play (they gave up 31 to Temple).
I pick: Villanova

7. Georgia Southern Eagles (3-1, 708)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #7, defeated Elon 38-21
Points Gained: 205
This Week: #34 Wofford
This week brings an interesting match as these teams were separated by a FG last season. Both teams are giving up points, and both teams are moving the ball as well, with the Eagles moving to a tune of 508 yards against Elon last week. Jaybo Shaw needs a big game this week, as he is the offensive focal point.
I pick: GSU

8. Western Illinois Leathernecks (3-1, 703)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #13, defeated Indiana State 40-7
Points Gained: 223
This Week: at #11 North Dakota State
It doesn't ever seem to be easy in the FCS top 25. Western had an easy time against league doormat ISU last week, but this week raises the stakes with the Bison coming to town. WIU is giving up just 7 points per game in 1-AA play this season, so it will be up to the D to carry the day, along with a solid rushing attack that carried the Leathernecks to the win last week.
I pick: NDSU could be up for the upset if they can contain the run game. Look for a low scoring affair.

9. Southeast Missouri State RedHawks (3-1, 645)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #10, defeated Tennessee Tech 23-21
Points Gained: 175
This Week: at Eastern Illinois
Last Saturday's game was too close for comfort. This week brings a bit of a challenge as Southeast lost to the Panthers at home last season. That should not be the case this week, but the Hawks are looking ripe for an upset.
I pick: Southeast for one more week
10. Youngstown State Penguins (3-1, 641)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #12, defeated Southern Illinois 31-28
Points Gained: 184
This Week: at Missouri State
The key to the game this week will be ball control for the Penguins, and that means handing the ball to Jamaine Cook and Adaris Bellamy, as they are the leading point producers for YSU. Red Zone ball control and turnover creation is what did in SIU last weekend, as the Penguins picked up a come from behind win. The defense will have to be sound this week, as the Bears put up 41 on conference leader Illinois State (not that Illinois State has been very good defensively).
I pick: YSU

11. North Dakota State Bison (3-1, 632)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #17, defeated South Dakota 38-16
Points Gained: 260
This Week: at #8 Western Illinois
NDSU has been a much different team in the last two weeks than they were in the first two weeks. They averaged 7.5 points in the first two weeks, and in the last two they have scored 35.5. The one constant has been the D,as they only allow 11 points per game.
I pick: NDSU in the minor upset.

12. UMass Minutemen (3-1, 617)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #15, defeated Stony Brook 26-21
Points Gained: 231
This Week: at Towson
The Minutemen are for real, and will be considered the dark horse in the Colonial, but they can beat any team on any given Saturday. John Griffin and Jonathon Hernandez both have over 300 yards rushing.
I pick: UMass wins easily this week.

13. Robert Morris Colonials (3-1, 577)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #19, defeated Wagner 30-9
Points Gained: 251
This Week: at St. Francis (PA)
Robert Morris has been on a very nice run since falling to Dayton in the opener. The Colonials have the trinity of offensive producers that a team needs to win regularly in QB Jeff SInclair (10 TDs), RB Myles Russ (108 yards per game rushing and 4 scores), and WR Shadrae King (22 catches and 4 scores). This week should provide a solid win.
I pick: Robert Morris

14. William & Mary Tribe (3-1, 561)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #18, defeated Maine 24-21
Points Gained: 227
This Week: #6 Villanova
The Tribe is coming off of an emotional an emotional last minute come from behind win at Maine last weekend, and now have to face a dominant force in Villanova. The Tribe dropped a 1 point decision last season on the road, so this could be a high wire act. Mike Callahan is averaging 211 yards passing, but his TD/Pick ratio is only 5/3. He'll have to be more effective to try and steal a win this week, and Mike Paulus played in relief last week, although he has been relatively ineffective as well outside of the game winning toss against Maine.
I pick: Villanova
15. Alcorn State Braves (3-0, 529)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #26, defeated Alabama State 41-21
Points Gained: 261
This Week: at Mississippi State
Expect the Braves to lose their first game, and to probably slide out of the top 25 this week, as they travel to Starkville to take on the 1-A Bulldogs. The defense has been carrying the Braves so far, and we'll see if that continues when they get back into 1-AA play.
I pick: Mississippi State

16. Grambling Tigers (2-1, 486)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #36, defeated Prairie View 34-17
Points Gained: 251
This Week: at Alabama A&M
Get the ball into the hands of Frank Warren. That is the key to winning for the Tigers, and he has responded with 488 yards in 3 games. There is no passing game to speak of, so this will have to do. Alabama A&M is a strange team that plays up to better opponents, so this will be an interesting week.
I pick: Grambling...control the clock!!!

17. Yale Bulldogs (2-0, 480)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #33, defeated Cornell 21-7
Points Gained: 235
This Week: Albany
The Bulldogs are cruising out of the gate, and this week should be no problem. I see an easy 3-0 for Yale.
I pick: Yale

18. Montana State Bobcats (3-1, 477)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #25, defeated Eastern Washington 30-7
Points Gained: 203
This Week: at Sacramento State
The Bobcats are sitting at the top of the Big Sky early on, and they did so by dominating EWU last weekend. There seems to be a QB battle brewing between Denarius McGhee and Cody Kempt, as McGhee has struggled some with turnovers, averaging a pick per game. This week will be a tough one, as CSUS has improved a great deal.
I pick: Montana State, but it won't be easy.

19. Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (3-0, 472)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #21, defeated Norfolk State 21-7
Points Gained: 185
This Week: at Morgan State
The Cats are only coughing up 8 points per game this season, but the competition has not been great up until last week. With wins over Edward Waters and Savannah State, there has hardly been a push. They get one this week on the road. They should survive though, as the Bears have not really found an offense yet in 2010.
I pick: Bethune-Cookman

20. Georgetown Hoyas (3-1, 469)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #20, defeated Holy Cross 17-7
Points Gained: 177
This Week: at Colgate
The Hoyas are all alone at the top of the Patriot League standings, and should remain there after this week. QB Scott Darby is running the spread very nicely right now, but it's the defense that has been helping the Hoyas to their grind out wins. Georgetown has picked off 6 passes in 4 games.
I pick: Georgetown

21. Central Arkansas (3-1, 466)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #11, lost to Tulsa 41-14
Points Lost: 0 (lost to a 1-A school)
This Week: Northwestern State
Last week was tough, but this week will be much better against the Demons, who have lost 13 of 14 going back to last season.
I pick: UCA

22. Texas State Bobcats (3-1, 450)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #35, defeated Southern Utah 42-28
Points Gained: 206
This Week: IDLE
It was nice to see the Bobcats debut, but they will fall back out next week due to the lack of points being played for with a week off. RBs Karrington Bush and Dexter Imade are carrying the load on offense and QB Tyler Arndt is coming around after a rough start. If the defense gets shored up, then it would be possible to push Stephen F. Austin in Southland play.

23. Hampton Pirates (2-1, 440)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #14, IDLE
Points Gained: 0
This Week: at Delaware State...Thursday
Hampton got a much needed break last week, and now they come back to a nice and tasty cupcake in Delaware State on Thursday night. This should be nice and easy.
I pick: Hampton

24. Dartmouth Big Green (2-0, 439)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #28, defeated Sacred Heart 21-19
Points Gained: 173
This Week: at Penn
The Big Green barely escaped Sacred Heart, as the Pioneers missed a FG with 0:44 seconds left in the game. They will have to be more focused and much more productive to take out Penn in Philly this week.
I pick: UPSET ALERT!!!! Penn wins

25. Illinois State Redbirds (3-1, 432)
Last Week's Ranking/Result: #36, defeated Missouri State 44-41 (OT)
Points Gained: 197
This Week: Southern Illinois
The Redbirds survived the Bears last week, and now have to take on a Saluki team who has their backs against the wall. This should be a raging battle this weekend.
I pick: ISU in a shootout
