Didn't Learn Much
UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns
The Cajuns would have been a master this week if not for a major 4th quarter collapse that almost saw the Indians come back. ASU scored 17 4th quarter points, and Ryan Aplin passed for 438 yards against the Cajun secondary, which is known to be suspect. No one player really stood out for the Cajuns in this game.
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
Jeff Murphy got the start at QB over Logan Kilgore and passed for 300 yards but never found the end zone. Phillip Tanner rushed for 3 scores for the Raiders, but the defense was appalling. No 1-A team should ever give up 33 points to Austin Peay.
Failing Grade
Florida Atlantic Owls
Michigan State didn't play their best game of the season by any means, yet the Owls never could find a way to pull close and steal one despite the solid play of QB Jeff Van Kemp. The Owls need to find players to put around their solid QB. Who will step up, and who on defense will learn how to tackle a running back?
Arkansas State Indians
ASU QB Ryan Alpin had a huge game, as mentioned above. If your QB goes for over 400 yards, why are you not winning?
North Texas Eagles
North Texas gave up what may be their only shot at a win, and Todd Dodge was seen reading the want ads looking for a good high school gig.
Troy Trojans
The defense wasted a great offensive performance on the road against a vulnerbale OSU team. The Trojans had a lead at the half of 27-20, and they just could not hold on for the upset. Again, if your offense gives you 38 points, you had better have their back and hold onto the win. This is more of a defense failure rather than a team failure.
UL-Monroe Indians
ULM just got their asses kicked regularly on Saturday. They couldn't stop the pass, and the offense never got off of the bus. Todd Berry was a poor choice to coach this team, and it's going to show weekly. This team wasn't so bad not so long ago.
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
WKU has one player, and that's Bobby Rainey at RB. Rainer rushed for 187 yards and provided the entire offensive showcase on his shoulders in a massive loss. Rainey must feel like he is running around the field alone most of the time.
FIU Panthers
So the team that some expected to be the most improved in the Sun Belt came out and scored 14 points against a very ordinary Rutgers team. Wow, I think that I could have done that by rounding up a group of Grandmothers and Nuns. Good work FIU. By the way, I never drank the Kool-aide myself. It smelled like Jamestown.
