Taught a Master's Class

Syracuse Orangemen
This is rare air for the Cuse. Ryan Nassib played a solid game at QB, and the Orangemen even scored on a blocked FG, and did it all on the road. That is a huge confidence builder and Syracuse has something that they can build on for the rest of the season. The D held the Zips to 166 yards for the game. Very nice.

South Florida Bulls
I really debated putting the Bulls on this list, because they did not play a complete game. But if you grade them from the 2nd quarter on, than they pass the test. The Bulls came out of a sloppy 14-14 tie against Stony Brook and outscored the Sea Wolves 45-0 the rest of the way to give Skip Holtz his first win as coach at USF. BJ Daniels was solid with 264 yards passing. He found the end zone twice by air and once on the ground.

Didn't Learn Much

Rutgers Scarlet Knights
The Knights were awful at the end of the first half, only leading 6-0. Thank God that Joe Martinek rushed for 109 yards, because QB Tom Savage gave Knights fans nothing to cheer about. 6-0 against Norfolk State may has well been losing as far as I am concerned when you play a team like this. The defense was awesome, and they are the only thing keeping a 31-0 win from receiving a failing grade.

West Virginia Mountaineers
West Virginia scored one TD in the first half, and looked intimidated at times bt the Chanticleers from the Big South Conference. Coastal was hitting hard all day long, and they never plkayed dead, which was exactly what WVU expected them to do. The Mountaineers did not come to play, and still managed a 31-0 win. You can't be lazy like that when you start playing real teams.

Failing Grades

Pitt Panthers
The Panthers went into Salt Lake City feeling pretty damned good about themselves. They left it wondering what truck had hit them. Even though the Panthers were in the game throughout the duration of it, they never got Dion Lewis into a position where he could take off, and in so not doing, he may have taken a huge hit to his Heisman consideration after only rushing for 75 yards in a loss to a Mountain West team. Also consider that Tino Sunseri showed his inexperience at QB by throwing a horrible pick in OT that cost the Panthers any shot at a win.

Louisville Cardinals
Sure, they played hard this week. But you were playing Kentucky. This is the one game that you should be up for. The offense is still just a little worse than a work in progress. Adam Froman was just garbage as the starting QB, but Bilal Powell looked ery good at RB, rushing for 153 yards and a score. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but the QB spot has to get better, as does the D.

UConn Huskies
The Huskies bascally did nothing right on Saturday at the Big House, and Michigan QB Denard Robinson made the vaunted Husky D his personla bitch. If this is the best that this league has to offer, than God help us all.

Cincinnati Bearcats
The Bearcats had a nice groove going for a quarter and a half, and then the offense just shut down. Zach Collaros was sacked 8 times, and the defense followed the offense into hibernation, allowing Fresno State to outscore them 28-0 for the last 2 and a half quarters. That is not how this was supposed to go.

Next Week's Schedule
West Virginia (1-0) at Marshall (0-1) Friday
Texas Southern (0-1) at UConn (0-1)
Indiana State (1-0) at Cincinnati (1-0)
South Florida (1-0) at Florida (1-0)
New Hampshire (1-0) at Pittsburgh (0-1)
Eastern Kentucky (0-1) at Louisville (0-1)
Syracuse (1-0) at Washington (0-1)
