UConn Huskies
The Huskies looked a little pissed off this week. They should be, as they were expected to give Michigan all that they could handle and failed. Texas Southern is an easy target, as the Tigers have never played a 1-A opponent close. They lived up to their billing this week.
Pittsburgh Panthers
Pitt had a nice rebound win over the 1-AA Wildcats. UNH is a 1-AA power that has brought the pain to Rutgers and Ball State over the years, and if Pitt was not on their A game, they could have fallen prey as well. Dion Lewis is being mauled this season, however, just as I had predicted without having anestablished QB on hand.
Didn't Learn Much
Cincinnati Bearcats
Sure, the win over Indiana State was resounding, but it wasn't convincing. UC has been one of my early letdown teams, as they have failed to play up to their talent level. ISU has been as bad a 1-AA team as you can find for the last decade, and UC only led 12-7 at the half. Sell your stock now!!!!
West Virginia Mountaineers
WVU never looked very good against Coastal Carolina, and the trend continued against Marshall on the road. It was the arm of Geno Smith, not the legs of Noel Devine that saved WU from what would have been a catastrophic upset loss at the hands of Marshall.
Louisville Cardinals
I guess a win is a win these days at Louisville, but I can't help thinking about a very short time ago when the Cardinals were a power in college fotball. What did Steve Kragthorpe do to this program?
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
What is going on at Rutgers? They have had two very lousy wins to start the season. Sadly enough, they have gained enough points to be ranked at 35 in the PRS, but they are just asking to get beat, and soon. QB Tom Savage has been terrible, and the offense hardly moves. Thank God that they haven't played anyone yet.
Failing Grade
South Florida Bulls
USF had the Florida Gators firmly up against the ropes last Saturday, and then they just let go and the wheels came flying off of the Wagon. BJ Daniels was intercepted 4 times, and nothing went right in the final 2 quarters of play. The defense made zero plays after the half, and did not generate any turnovers at all.
Syracuse Orangemen
You almost had to expect the Orangemen to slip up this week in Seattle, and they did not fail inthat they met those expectations. Ryan Nassib was disrupted all night long and Delone Carter never sniffed the end zone. The secondary never could find a way to keep Jake Locker from scoring at will. It'll be nice to go home. After opening the first 2 weeks on the road.
Week 3 Schedule
Cincinnati (1-1) at NC State (2-0) (Thursday)
Maryland (2-0) at West Virginia (2-0)
UConn (1-1) at Temple (2-0)
Louisville (1-1) at Oregon State (0-1)
Maine (1-1) at Syracuse (1-1)
Pittsburgh (1-1), USF (1-1), and Rutgers (2-0) are idle
