Taught a Master's Class
Arizona Wildcats
The Cats should have had a shutout if not for a holding call in the end zone. Nick Foles shredded Toledo for 360 yards passing Firday night, and it was lights out for Toledo, as The UA defense held the Rockets to 183 total yards and 10 first downs.
Oregon Ducks
Kenjon Barner was the backup that started due to suspension of star back LaMichael James. The backup is working his way into the starting job as he rushed for 4 TDs and caught another on a 60 yard pass play, and the Ducks led 59-0 at the half. The Ducks have a huge challenge this week, but they are for real.
California Golden Bears
The Bears easily ran past the Aggies of UC-Davis, and now they can move on to the meat of the schedule. This is what the Bears were supposed to do, and they did it with finality and force. Kevin Riley passed for 258 yards and 3 scores.
Stanford Cardinal
The Cardinal had to come out and prove that they would survive past the loss of Toby Gerhart, and this was a good place to start. Stanford raced out to a 38-7 lead and coasted. Andrew Luck was almost perfect in passing for 316 yards and 4 scores, while the D held the Hornets to 167 yards total.
Arizona State Sun Devils
Cameron Marshall rushed for 3 scores on 4 carries, and ASU held Portland State to 3 FGs on the night. Steven Threet was not perfect, but he is better than what the Devils have had. They handled the Vikings exactly as they should have.
Didn't Learn Much
USC Trojans
Ok, I did learn one thing, and that's that the Trojans cannot tackle to save theri lives, and their D is full of holes. Other than that, they look like they can handle the occasional shootout. The Trojans gave up 459 yards through the air and could not cover an elephant in the secondary.
Failing Grades
UCLA Bruins
The Bruins looked like luke warm shit. They were not prepared, and much like hated rival USC, cannot tackle. They were coached like a bunch of junior high school kids, and if I saw one more dropped pass, I was literally going to vomit. That's not letting Kevin Princ(ess) off of the hook. He looked like crap too, and if is the best that this kid can do as far as development by year 3, than Norm Chow is stealing money from the university. Princ(ess) is not athletic enough to run the pistol, which looked more like a cap gun. And that defense...they had to know that Daniel Thomas would get the ball on almost every play, and they still couldn't stop the guy. Neuheisel has no excuses that are good enough for the awful showing.
Washington Huskies
Jake Locker still cannot consistently find targets down field. He is a talented player, but he is not a big game winner. The offense went into hibernation in the second half, and the Huskies didn't score a single point after the break, allowing BYU to look very good at their expense. The defense is also still open to the big play.
Washington State Cougars
This is a mess in every way. The Cougars looked like a girl's school against OSU on the road, and it's not likely to get much better in what should be Paul Wulff's final season as HC. No D, No O, No good.
Oregon State Beavers
There is not much you can say about this team, when I expected them to lose. Jacquizz Rodgers likely saw any Heisman consideration go the way of the dodo as he only managed a pedestrian 75 yards rushing. Another one bites the dust.
