Division 2 Independents 2011 Preview

Due to a lack of information from many members of the Independent ranks, I am unable to complete a full preview to the best of my ability. I can, however, share some information as to what's going on amongst the D2 Independents.

Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State have become Independents after many years in the Lone Star Conference. They will both be moving into the MIAA for 2012 season, so this is a short term home for them.

Several members of this group have moved up from the NAIA ranks, including Black Hills State, William Jewell, Malone, McKendree, Sioux Falls, South Dakota Mines, and Walsh. These schools will all be provisional members of D2 football in 2011, and are ineligible for postseason play, but Independents rarely ever make the postseason anyway.

Central State is an existing Independent, but will move on to join the Great Lakes Football Conference next fall.

There will be more coverage as the season opens.
