If you have been following this blog since the beginning, we have created a formula that I have used for almost 30 years to rank college football teams on every level. We will also be applying this formula to CFL football, NFL football, and College Basketball. Starting in 2012, we will be applying this to MLB as well.
So here is our PRI for week one of the CFL season, and stay tuned, as I will be posting week number 2 later this afternoon as well.

CFL PRI Edition 1
1. Edmonton Eskimos (256 Points)
Last Week: Defeated Saskatchewan 42-28
Road wins are huge, and the Eskimos used a road trip to Regina to take down the Riders by force, scoring 42 points in fine fashion. Ricky Ray was laserlike in his precision, completing 21/27 passes for 294 yards and 3 scores in the win. Kerry Joseph came on as a run specialist QB and ran for a score, while Daniel Porter rushed fo another. Adarius Bowman and Jason Barnes both busted over 100 yards receiving, while Barnes hauled in 2 TDs. JC Sherritt kicked off his rookie campaign with 11 tackles, and the Esk defense picked off 3 passes, and forced a fumble in the win.
Week 2 Opponent: Hamilton
2. Winnepeg Blue Bombers (232 Points)
Last Week: Defeated Hamilton 24-16
What a way to rebound off of a 14 loss season in 2010. The Bombers went on the road and stole one from the Ti-Cats after trailing 10-0 early in the game. Tough way to win, but the Bombers outscored the Cats 24-6 the rest of the way, and earned a tough win away from home. Buck Pierce struggled, only passing for 151 yards on 12/26 passin with a score and a pick. Fred Reid picked up the slack as he rushed for 87 yards on the day. The defense saved the day, as the offense was forced to punt 11 times. Safety Ian Logan picked off 2 passes on the day, and Mike Renaud averaged 42.2 yards on those 11 punts.
Week 2 Opponent: Toronto
3. Toronto Argonauts (225 Points)
Last Week: Defeated Calgary 23-21
It was all defense through 3 quarters, as the Argos led 10-6 entering the 4th, and then a shootout hit with the Argos getting outscored by the Stamps 15-13 in the 4th. The Argos held on for the tough road win behind the rushing of Cory Boyd, who ran for 100 yards and one score on the day. Cleo Lemon won the QB battle, and he stumbled through a very average day, passing for 187 yards and 1 score to go with 1 pick. Veteran PK Noel Prefontaine added 3 FGs on the day the thrid of which made the difference, as had he missed just one, the Argos would have fallen. DT Claude Wroten collected 2 sacks for the defense.

4. Monteal Alouettes (184 Points)
Last Week: Defeated BC Lions 30-26
We won't bullshit you, as the Als really are the team that everyone has to chase in 2011, but they won at home, and damn near blew a 27-10 lead at the half, and the three teams in front of them either won on the road, or won more convincingly this week. That matters not, as Anthony Calvillo cruised in the first half with 3 ridiculous TD passes that made the BC secondary look like crap. Calvillo completed 22/30 passes for 312 yards on the day, and Brandon Whittaker made everyone forget about Avon Colbourne for the night, as he rushed for 119 yards and picked up some beautiful blocks on blitzes to protect Calvillo in the passing game. Jamel Richardson had a huge nught, catching 9 passes for 162 yards. Sean Whyte, acquired from BC, added 3 FGs on the night.

5. BC Lions (-128 Points)
Last Week: Lost to Montreal 30-26
BC looked like two different teams in the week one road loss. IN the first half, they looked young and dumb, making key mistakes offensively, while committing 3 penalites of 15 yards each before halftime. They found themselves down 27-10, buth then thundered back to win the second half 16-3, which still found them 4 point losers to the 2 time defending champs. Travis Lulay showed himself to be an emerging QB in this league, as he completed 26/45 passes for 366 yards, and he also led the team in rushing with just 27 yards. Better yet, he never turned it over, and found old reliable Geroy Simon 5 times for 115 yards.
Week 2 Opponent: Calgary
6. Calgary Stampeders (-181 Points)
Last Week: Lost to Toronto 23-21
Home losses suck, but Calgary was one of 3 teams to lose their home opener this week, so they shouldn't be lonely. Henry Burris was stymied in scoring range in this one, passing for 293 yards, but failing to ever find the endzone. He also was picked once to add salt to the wide home opening wound. The real kick in the ass? Robert Maver's 3 missed FG, any one of which could have won the game. Fucking kickers...

7. Saskatchewan Roughriders (-186 Points)
Last Week: Lost to Edmonton 42-28
The Riders tried to keep up offensively with the onslught that the Esks had unleashed, but Darien Durant was not up to the task. Durant completed 27/37 passes for 339 yards and 2 scores, but also tossed 3 picks in the game, which proved debilitating to the effort. The defense also had a great deal of trouble defending against Esk QB Ricky Ray and his constant rocket attack. Durant also lost a fumble in a very tough day at home.
Week 2 Opponent: Montreal
8. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (-192 Points)
Last Week: Lost to Winnipeg 24-16
Hamilton started off strong at home, leading 10-0 early, and then the wheels fell off the wagon. The Bombers came alive with a strong defense, and the Cats fell apart. Kevin Glenn fell to 0-5-1 in openers as a starter, and he tossed 3 picks to make it look extra ugly. Avin Colbourne did not score in his Cats debut, but did manage 75 yards rushing on the day. Quinton Porter did relieve Glenn for a time at QB, but completed 4/7 passes with a pick mixed in. Hamilton is sliding, while the Bombers are waking up. Bad sign. JustinMedlock nailed all 3 of his FGs. Small favor, or else this would have been a rout.
