Coaches on the Hot Seat

Here is our latest Hot Seat tracker...it's heading into crunch time, and the heat is intense this week!

June Jones, SMU
Jones has won two straight in AAC play, but the wins have come over Temple and Memphis. Folks in Dallas are getting tired of the low or mid tier status for the Mustangs and are seeking results. Anything short of a bowl game, and SMU could shove Jones into the Dead Pool.

Jim Grobe, Wake Forest
Grobe has climbed out of the Dead Pool in recent weeks, and would be off the Hot Seat too if the Deacons had just held on against Miami. This week's roadie at Syracuse is a tipping point game for Grobe.

Randy Edsell, Maryland
Remember when Maryland was unbeaten early in the season, and then got wrecked by Florida State? Seems like it's been a long time since that horrible game, and the Terps still haven't recovered, starting just 1-3 in league play.

Mike London, Virginia
The Wahoos are 0-4 in conference play, and 2-6 overall. One more loss, and it's home for the Holidays...again. London's three year record at UVA is pretty abysmal also, so there's that. London is trending towards Dead Pool territory.

Bo Pelini, Nebraska
If the Huskers lose to Northwestern this week, we won't be talking about a hot seat, it'll be the Dead Pool for Pelini, where he can join his idiot, drug addled brother. This week is a must win for both Pelini and Nebraska.

Charlie Weis, Kansas
Weis is not changing the culture quickly enough at Kansas, and the heat is rising. He'll likely be back in 2014, but things have to change, and a reshuffling of the staff won't be enough.

Rick Stockstill, Middle Tennessee
A last second TD may have saved MTSU against Marshall last week, but the heat is still on at 4-4. MTSU needs a run, and they need it now.

Bill Blankenship, Tulsa
I don't see Blankenship falling this season, but things are not going well at Tulsa for him. A loss to UTSA this weekend may be even more problematic.

Rich Ellerson, Army
Ellerson is an Army guy, but this season has been a disappointment, as much as last season was. A loss to Air Force would be a huge letdown this week, even on the road.

Dave Christensen, Wyoming
Wyoming had a hot start that has been followed by an utter collapse. The Cowboys may not be done collapsing, and that could cost Christensen his job. Another loss may push him into the Dead Pool. Who am I kidding? It definitely will!

Troy Calhoun, Air Force
Calhoun's record has been on the skids, and at 1-7, the Falcons are out of a bowl for certain. A loss to Army this week would darken the cloud over the Academy. These Falcons are grounded.

Will Muschamp, Florida
Do you really think people are being quiet about a 4-3 team in the swamp? Hell, they don't even like Muschamp all that much in Gainesville.

Mark Richt, Georgia
One more loss will put Richt in the Dead Pool. No, I am not kidding. A 4 loss Bulldog team after a top ten start to the season would be a massive failure in Athens, and Richt will be held accountable.

Dan Mullen, Mississippi State
MSU bounced back with a win over Kentucky last week, and that took some pressure off of Mullen, but the pressure will build again as the losses continue.

Coming up tomorrow...Coaches Swimming in the Dead Pool!
