Conference Title Chase Updates Week 9: Mountain West

Still In It Mountain: Boise State, Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force
Boise State: After a slow and bumpy start, the Broncos have moved forward in conference play to start 4-0. With a month left, they still control their destiny. After what should be an easy win against Nevada this week, a three week playoff schedule will ensue, starting with Colorado State on the road. It's about to get real.

Colorado State: The Rams are lamenting that loss to Air Force last week. That puts the Rams into must win mode with games coming against Wyoming and Boise State over the next two weeks. If they can get through that, San Jose State is a seriously winnable game that could propel the Rams into the conference title game, but only if they win the two earlier games.

Wyoming: After a rough early start, the Cowboys appear to be coming around, but they have already lost to Boise State, so they need some help. They can help themselves this week by beating Colorado State at home. It's week by week now for the Cowboys.

Air Force: As strange as this is, Air Force still controls their own destiny in conference play, as their losses were to teams that do not impede their progress moving forward. The Falcons have losses to New Mexico and Fresno State, and have already beaten Colorado State. The Falcons get Army this week out of conference, but if they can beat Boise State and Wyoming, and get Boise State to lose one other conference game, the Falcons could still sneak up and steal the division.

Still In It West: Fresno State, San Diego State
Fresno State: Jeff Tedford has done an amazing job in year one at Fresno State, as one of the worst teams in the nation last year now has a shot to win the West and play for a conference title in just one year. It has been an amazing run for this proud program. The good news is that they have already beaten San Diego State, so even one more loss like that strange beat down by UNLV would not damage them. The Bulldogs are in great shape, but they just cannot lose two, and Wyoming and Boise State are still on the road ahead.

San Diego State: The Aztecs need Fresno State to lose both of those games to Boise State and Wyoming in order to recover from yet another annual meltdown that defies logic. After bad losses to Boise State and Fresno State, the Aztecs need those two losses by Fresno State, and they need to win out against a schedule that should have them finishing 3-0, starting this week with San Jose State on the road.
