Conference Title Chase Updates Week 9: MAC

Still In It East: Ohio, Akron
Ohio: They way it falls out is that this is now a two week race in the MAC for the Eastern Division title. After hammering Miami (Ohio) this week, Ohio now will take on Toledo next week in what may amount to a must win game for them, as they play Akron the following week. Losing both games takes the Bobcats out of the race. If Ohio loses to Toledo, but still manages to beat Akron, Ohio can still take the division, but a minimal 2-1 finish is a must.

Akron: The Zips have it easier than the Bobcats, but they play each other week after next to decide things. Akron would love to win out and save the drama, and can finish 2-1 to take it, as long as the loss is not to Ohio.

Still In It West: Toledo, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, Western Michigan
Toledo: The Rockets took care of a huge problem by beating Northern Illinois this week in MAC play. They now control their own destiny moving forward. The Rockets now have wins over both NIU and CMU, but still have to close out against Western Michigan. The good news is that the Rockets would have to lose two games in November for anyone else to have a shot at stealing the West now.

Northern Illinois: The Huskies lost out on a huge chance to win the division when they fell to Toledo this week, and WMU and CMU are still both upcoming games. The Huskies need to win out against the remainder of their schedule, and Toledo has to lose twice, which seems unlikely at this point.

Central Michigan: The Chippewas have won 3 of their last 4 games, and picked up a much need win over Western Michigan this week. That said, the Chippewas would still need Toledo to lose out to stay in the race, and nobody sees that happening.

Western Michigan: The Broncos get an easy one next week against Kent, but losing to Central Michigan may have crushed their chances, as they need to win out, beat Toledo, and hope that chaos ensues if they have any chance of staying in the race at this point, and they also have to beat Northern Illinois as well.
