Week 10 was an interesting week for many reasons, and one of those reasons was that there were so many teams taking bye weeks, including our top 2 in Alabama and Oregon. Everyone who has come too know our system knows that when you don't play, you don't gain or lose points in the rankings. You stay completely static, and when that happens, there can be seismic shifts. This week saw some serious shifting at the top of the rankings, and our number one team in the nation will shock many, and the controversy will begin to take hold.
One of the story lines we are following is the non-AQ spot in the BCS system. Of course, overall, we don't buy into the BCS, and we never have. But if you are tracking this spot, we are in complete disagreement over who should be ranked higher between Fresno State and Northern Illinois. Take a look at our rankings, and also note in our weekly FCS rankings that our top two teams are separated by just a single point, which is huge as we enter the final few weeks of the season.
FBS PRS Rankings
1. Northern Illinois 9-0, 2028...The Huskies completely destroyed UMass, and used bye weeks in the top 10 to move up. The Huskies, not Fresno State should be currently looking at a BCS bid.
2. Ohio State 9-0, 1989...The Buckeyes used the bye weeks to vault up in the PRS as well. The Buckeyes are dropping statements every week in what is a campaign to get into the title game.
3. Alabama 8-0, 1932...The Tide took the week off, and dropped two spots. Bama still has one more game to play than either NIU or OSU, so look for them to win out and probably take the top spot back.
4. Oregon 8-0, 1889...The Ducks took the week off as well in preparation for Stanford on Thursday night. It's the game of the year in the Pac-12.
5. Florida State 8-0, 1859...The Noles took care of Miami's perfect season, and they have dominated the ACC this season. Somehow they have failed to resonate with the numbers, and are not taking over more than they have. They have four more games to make a run.
6. Baylor 7-0, 1654...The Bears are offensively one of the hottest teams to have ever played this game. They face their toughest challenge to date this week with Oklahoma. If the Bears can get by the Sooners, they may be the spoiler in the top ten that could steal a title in the PRS.
7. Fresno State 8-0, 1629...Let's not forget that Fresno State is missing a game on their schedule right now, having had their game against Colorado postponed. The game hasn't been rescheduled, and it's hurting them here in regards to where they rank against Northern Illinois.
8. Ball State 8-1, 1547...Pete Lembo and Rod Carey are in a dog fight for MAC Coach of the Year, and they haven't battled each other yet. The Cardinals could spoil it all for the Huskies, and are sitting in a prime position right now heading into the final month.
9. Clemson 8-1, 1529...The Tigers haven't looked nearly as strong since they were blown out against Florida State, but they had an easy time of Virginia last weekend. Clemson needs FSU to lose twice in ACC play, and that's not likely to happen.
10. Missouri 8-1, 1487...The Tigers came back in a big way this week in blowing out Tennessee. Mizzou is still in position to win the SEC East and would likely play Alabama in the conference title game. Missouri to the Sugar Bowl is looking strong.
