Alabama is the team to beat until someone makes that not be so. Until then, the chase is on. Expect LSU to give a solid push in the West, while Ole Miss could be distracted, causing a slip in their recent fortunes. Texas A&M is in a make or break season, as is head coach Kevin Sumlin. Mississippi State may fall all the way to the bottom in the West as well without Dak Prescott.
In the East, it's another open season. There isn't nearly the strength there as in the West. Tennessee needs to prove themselves this season after their fan base has touted their apparent progress for the last few seasons. It's now or never in Knoxville. Florida is looking for another surge, but must find consistent QB play. We know it won't be Treon Harris, who lost the job in the spring and has since left the program. Georgia made a huge hire in getting Kirby Smart to leave Alabama, but how strong is the roster, and how much will injuries play a part again in 2016? The rest of the division is up in the air. South Carolina made a highly questionable hire in Will Muschamp. Missouri had off-field issues and Gary Pinkel was forced to retire due to a cancer condition. In comes Barry Odom, who has a challenge of getting the program back on track. Mark Stoops is on the hot seat at Kentucky, and needs to go bowling. Vanderbilt is back to being their same old selves, and will likely be back in the SEC East basement.
