Here are the FBS Power Ratings System Rankings for Edition 5 of the 2013 season:
1. Ohio State (5-0, 971)
Last Week: Defeated Wisconsin 31-24
This Week: at #18 Northwestern
The Buckeyes never seemed to give an impression that they could be beaten by Wisconsin. This week, a trap awakes in Evanston against a team that everyone seems to undervalue week after week. In the words of Admiral Ackbar..."It's a trap!"
2. Stanford (4-0, 952)
Last Week: Defeated Washington State 55-17
This Week: #17 Washington
Two great teams at the top of our weekly rankings will be severely challenged this week. Stanford is heating up, and the Huskies have something to prove. Stanford gets the edge for being at home, but UW could give the Cardinal a serious challenge to move ahead in the North.
3. Alabama (4-0, 922)
Last Week: Defeated Ole Miss 25-0
This Week: Georgia State
The Tide will coast this week, and quite frankly, they could use the break. It hasn't always been perfect this season, but Alabama is slowly climbing to the top of the PRS yet again. Georgia State is the worst team in the nation amongst FBS programs this fall.
4. Oklahoma (4-0, 874)
Last Week: Defeated Notre Dame 35-21
This Week: TCU
The Sooners made easy work of Notre Dame in South Bend, and get another team on the slate that should be better than they are in TCU. OU is slowly becoming the dark horse candidate to run the table in 2013, but they cannot afford to take the underperforming Frogs lightly.
5. Michigan (4-0, 870)
Last Week: Idle
This Week: Minnesota
The Wolverines had a week off to get themselves together after nearly disastrous outings against Akron and UConn. Michigan will see a challenge from the Gophers, who, after a solid start to the season disappeared against Iowa last week. Michigan should win, but had best be ready.
6. Oregon (4-0, 869)
Last Week: Defeated California 55-16
This Week: at Colorado
It's about to get very real for the Buffaloes, as the Ducks are set to blitz through the Rockies this week. Colorado is a better football team than they have been in recent seasons, but they are nowhere ready for what the Ducks will bring to the table, even if D'Anthony Thomas is out this week.
7. Florida State (4-0, 846)
Last Week: Defeated Boston College (48-34)
This Week: #14 Maryland
This is a huge week for the Seminoles at home. They were hardly perfect against BC on the road last week, and this is the best Maryland team in years, with QB CJ Brown having a tremendous season. The Terps will look to make a name for themselves with an upset win this week, and FSU could be a perfect target right now.
8. Louisville (4-0, 813)
Last Week: Idle
This Week: at Temple
The crappy Temple of old is back in full swing losing ways again, so the Cardinals will cruise, even on the road. It's a perfect week for Teddy Bridgewater to beef up those stats.
9T. Houston (4-0, 806)
Last Week: Defeated UT-San Antonio 59-28
This Week: Idle
The Cougars have experience in the top ten of the PRS, and even won the PRS title a couple of years ago. The stay will be short lived, as they gain no points for taking the week off. That being said, Tony Levine has done a very nice job after starting the season on our Hot Seat.
9T. LSU (4-1, 806)
Last Week: Lost to Georgia 44-41)
This Week: at Mississippi State
The Tigers lost a shootout last week, so they could be vulnerable for an upset loss on the road this week. However, MSU is not in position to make that happen. I believe that LSU comes back strong and takes this SEC West road contest and moves back up in the rankings again.
The Rest of the Top 25
11. Northern Illinois (4-0, 778)...Beat their second Big 10 opponent this season.
12. UCLA (3-0, 762)...Idle last week to fall out of top ten. Visits Utah in Pac-12 South opener.
13. Miami (4-0, 735)...Win over USF was costly, lost Stephen Morris to injury.
14. Maryland (4-0, 730)...The Terps get to prove if they are for real at Florida State in ACC play.
15. Clemson (4-0, 723)...Destroyed Wake Forest last week, should take Syracuse on road this week.
16. Missouri (4-0, 722)...Undefeated record may be an illusion, and Vandy is a tough test this week.
17. Washington (4-0, 719)...A win at Stanford could mean big things moving forward. Big week.
18. Northwestern (4-0, 700)...Got a week off to prep for Ohio State. Now must prove they belong.
19. Texas Tech (4-0, 696)...The Red Raiders are a big surprise in Big 12. Will trash Kansas.
20T. Oregon State (4-1, 658)...Beavers out strong in PAC-12 North, now 2-0. They get the week off.
20T. Fresno State (4-0, 658)...Bulldogs got a huge win vs. Boise State last week. Could go unbeaten.
22. Ball State (4-1, 579)...Cardinals may be underdogs at Virginia, but they shouldn't be.
23. Iowa (4-1, 575)...The Hawkeyes are looking solid now, but tough part of schedule still ahead.
24. Texas A&M (4-1, 573)...Aggies got an unimpressive win over Arkansas. Taking the week off.
25. Baylor (3-0, 566)...The Bears off a bye week to face WVU, who beat OK. State. Interesting.
