MVP Offense: QB Brandon Silvers, RB Jordan Chunn
Silvers, a junior, was a huge part of the resurgent Trojans in 2016. He passed for 3180 yards and 23 scores to 12 INTs. He averaged 244.6 yards passing per game, while attempting a whopping 35.4 passes per contest. In all, Silvers attempted 460 passes in 2016, completing 293 of them for a 63.7% completion rate. Silvers added four more scores running the football.
Chunn rushes for 1288 yards, averaging 99.08 yards per game and scoring 16 times on the year. He averaged 21.66 carries per game, and ran for 176 yards in an upset win over Southern Miss.
MVP Defense: LB William Lloyd, DL Rashad Dillard, DB Blace Brown
Lloyd led a rock solid defense in 2016, and was the team leader in tackles with 70. He finished with 8.5 TFLs and two QB hurries.
Dillard was the leader up front on the line, as he finished with 40 tackles, a team leading 13.5 TFLs, 7.5 sacks, and 10 QB hurries.
Brown was the leader in the secondary, as he finished with four PBUs, and a team leading six INTs on the season.
Others of Note
Chunn was the only Trojan back with over 100 carries on the season (288).
Troy averaged 169.15 yards rushing per game to go with 260.5 yards passing per game.
Emanuel Thompson caught 80 passes to lead the team. Deondre Douglas caught 60 passes, finishing second.
Five receivers caught 20 or more passes, with Chunn adding 30 out of the backfield.
Troy recorded 63.39 tackles per game, while the offense forced 71.62 per game, which is a big tackling efficiency win.
Silvers was sacked just eight times all season.
The defense forced 10 fumbles, and the offense had 10 fumbles forced against.
Troy was penalized 6.8 times per game, seven times per game at home.
Best Win: Appalachian State 28-24
This was the seventh and final win of a seven game win streak. App State was the absolute favorite to win the Sun Belt in 2016, and Troy pulling off the win was a huge factor to show how far the program has come under Neal Brown in a short amount of time.
Worst Loss: Arkansas State 35-3
The Trojans were glowing coming off a win over App State, and it got to them in a horrible 35-3 loss to Arkansas State where nothing went right.
2017 Non Conference Schedule: 9/2 at Boise State, 9/9 Alabama State, 9/23 Akron, 9/30 at LSU
A slow September could be in the cards with two very tough tests on the road at Boise State and LSU. An upset win over Boise State could be in the cards, but the LSU game is a loss and a lock at that. Wins should come against Alabama A&M and Akron. Best case here is a 3-1 start, worst is 2-2.
