Stetson Starting Up Football

Just in from jacksonville.com...Stetson is going to be snapping a 55 year layoff from playing football in 2013, and will join the Pioneer Football League. Mercer had already made their own announcement about joining the FCS football ranks, and will also be joining the league, according to the report. Stetson and Mercer both compete in the A-Sun in other sports, and will be joining fellow A-Sun members Jacksonville and Campbell in the PFL. Fellow A-Sun members Belmont and Lipscomb are also having serious conversations about adding football as well.
Also according to the report, Stetson and Mercer will not be offering football scholarships, as the PFL is a non-scholarship conference.
Adding a title game to the PFL would add significant stature to the league, and it can use all of the help that it can get, as Jacksonville was wrongly left out of the FCS playoff picture, despite finishing in the top 10 in the PRS, 18th in the final FCS poll. and leading the nation in scoring and total offense after having finished 10-1. JU shared the PFL title with Dayton, who also was left out of the playoffs after also finishing 10-1 with an undefeated mark in the PFL.
Good luck to both Stetson and Mercer in their future football endeavors.
