Holtby Comes Through, Caps Win On Team Effort

Game 2 was a much improved game for both teams. This game was more physical as well with the Capitals having 46 hits and the Golden Knights having 39 hits. Even though Vegas dominated in takeaways in both games, the Caps had only 4 giveaways in game 2. Both teams also converted on a power play..

The Capitals were playing more defensive with 18 blocks. Their penalty kill units also were outstanding, only allowing 1 goal on 5 penalty kills. Holtby really showed up with 37 saves and a last minute save with his stick to keep the lead and secure the win for the Capitals. They hardly gave the puck away this game with only 4 give aways. The biggest downfall for the Capitals was Kuznetsov getting hurt in the first period, he’s a big part of this team and it’s going to be interesting to see what they do without him, as he is their top point scorer. If the Caps want to win this series, they need to keep this tempo, but not allow as many shots on Holtby.

The Knights showed improvement as well. They played better defensively against the Caps, and produced more scoring opportunities. Fleury played a good game making 23 saves on 26 shots on net. He did all he could to keep them in the game. The Knights first line needs to show up in game 3, as they hardly did anything in game 2. In game 2 they produced 2 points and a -2 rating. If the Knights want to come out and win the Stanley Cup, the 1st line needs to help produce points and defense like they have been all throughout these playoffs.

This series is already tough like I knew it would be. These first 2 games have been fexciting and nerve racking for fans of both teams. I can see this series going to game 7. This series is fast and physical, and the fan bases on both sides are getting what they are watching for.
