“We will certainly miss having David’s talents on our staff,” stated William and Mary Head Football Coach, Jimmye Laycock. “His first full-time position was on the staff here and he consistently worked on improving his craft. I know good things are in his future in this profession and we wish he and his family the best of luck and continued success.”
Corley leaves W&M after a six-year tenure as an assistant in which he coached the Tribe’s quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers. After joining the staff in 2008, he spent two years working with the team’s running backs before becoming the quarterbacks coach for the next three seasons. He served as the team’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator last season.
Highlighting the list of standout players Corley helped develop was former All-American running back Jonathan Grimes, who graduated as the most decorated player in Colonial Athletic Association history with 11 all-conference honors. Additionally, Grimes finished his collegiate career as W&M's all-time record holder in rushing yards (4,541), all-purpose yards (7,955) and kickoff return yards (2,289) en route to singing a free agent deal with the Houston Texas in 2012.
Corley was a four-year starter and multiple-time all-conference quarterback at W&M from 1999-2002 and finished his career as the Tribe’s all-time leader in passing yards (9,805), total offense (10,948) and touchdown passes (73). He remains one of only two quarterbacks (the other being Stan Yagiello, 1981-85) to be a four-year starter during the Laycock era.
On April 12, Corley will be inducted into the William and Mary Athletics Hall of Fame.
Following his graduation in 2002, Corley played professionally in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League
