We once again take a look at who is on the Hot Seat nationally in the FBS coaching ranks. We will add two new names to the Hot Seat this week, and they are major names from huge programs. Let us venture into the sitting room, and take a look at who is sitting on the Seat in the middle of the room.
Jim Grobe, Wake Forest
The Deacons fell to UL-Monroe this weekend. I am just about ready to toss Grobe into the Dead Pool, a loss in Wake's next scheduled game would be enough for me to do so. It's obvious to me that Grobe cannot take the Deacons back to their Orange Bowl days.
Charlie Weis, Kansas
The first loss came against Rice last weekend, and it could be the first of many to come. Weis is in for a long year, and although I believe that he'll be back in 2014, but the pressure has to start mounting to turn the tide at some point. Kansas has won in the past, so falling to the bottom is not a necessary thing.
Dave Christensen, Wyoming
I am close to taking Christensen off of the Hot Seat, but I need to see just a bit more. The Cowboys have the offense to be a dark horse in the Mountain West, but the defense has to get better, and that's what I am waiting to see.
Gary Pinkel, Missouri
It seems that Mizzou has been off more than they have played so far this fall. They are an off the grid team right now, and in the SEC, that's a huge negative. With a road game at surprising Indiana coming up, a loss could dictate the Tigers' run in the SEC East. I am not optimistic that Missouri can pull this off, and Pinkel may be headed to the Pool.
Troy Calhoun, Air Force
The Falcons aren't just losing games, they are getting blown out. Calhoun looks like a guy who has lost his direction with his program. Not that much was expected out of the Academy this fall, but this is nuts. Air Force has always been competitive, and there is no excuse to lose by three TDs every week.
Rick Stockstill, Middle Tennessee
Stockstill's Blue Raiders struggled to overcome Memphis this week, and that's horribly bad news. Stockstill's stock is falling fast, and a flame out could happen once Sun Belt play begins.
Rocky Long, San Diego State
The Aztecs are off to a horrid start, and Oregon State is coming up next. SDSU can hope for a let down after the Beavers had to fight tooth and nail for a 51-48 win over Utah. One can hope.
NEW ADDITION: Bo Pelini, Nebraska
It was bad enough that Pelini's Cornhuskers blew a 21-3 1st half lead at home against UCLA only to lose by 20, or that the defense is leaking faster than an overloaded Depends, but an audio recording was released from two seasons ago where he was recorded cursing out half of greater Omaha and Lincoln, insulting the fan base, and alienating his thin support base. Add insult to injury, as Pelini responded to criticism from Tommy Frazier (one of the most beloved figures in the state) by insulting him as well. Is he trying to lose the job?
NEW ADDITION: Will Muschamp, Florida
The fans don't like him. The fans didn't travel to Miami. The Gators lost to Miami. There are no playmakers on offense. He doesn't seem to care. If UCLA fired basketball coach Ben Howland after winning 25 games, can Florida dump Muschamp? There are real issues here.
