University of
Dayton safety Nick Weston has been named Pioneer Football League
Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Saturday’s 21-14 win at Robert
Morris.
Weston, a 2010 graduate of Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, led
the Flyers with 11 tackles in the win. He also had Dayton’s only
interception and batted down a pass. UD held RMU to just 75 yards
rushing and a 6-for-24 passing effort.
After missing all but a fraction of the 2012 season opener due to
an injury, Weston has returned to the starting lineup and is tied for second on
the team in tackles (18). CollegeSportsMadness.com also named Weston its PFL Defensive Player of the Week.
Dayton, 2-1 on the year, has a bye week this Saturday. On Sept. 28, the Flyers will open PFL play against the team they concluded the 2012 season, Marist. The Red Foxes will travel to Welcome Stadium for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff. Marist is currently 1-2 on the year.
