Not much has changed in the Dead Pool, but as we get closer to the end of September, the water only gets deeper for those who have been cast into the depths. The list has not changed much at all this week, and some futures have become murky. Let us take a look at who's neck deep in the Dead Pool!
Paul Pasqualoni, UConn
When Maryland and former coach Randy Edsell took the Huskies down last weekend, I believe that it had to have sealed Pasqualoni's fate with the Huskies. When you let your former coach come into your house and kick your ass, it never bodes well, and Michigan comes to town this week to stomp on the corpse. The Huskies are going nowhere.
Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
As much as it pains me to say it, Ferentz may be jumping out of the Pool and onto the Hot Seat for a week or so after managing to defeat Iowa State last weekend. Once Big 10 play begins, I fully expect him to fall back into the Pool, and that starts now.
Norm Chow, Hawaii
The Rainbows get a break from any major critique this week, because they took last weekend off. UH travels to Reno to take on Nevada in conference play, and they are 9 point dogs heading in. Have I mentioned that Nevada has given up 120 points to FBS opponents this season, and they're the 9 point favorites? That says all you need to know about the job Chow is doing.
Bobby Hauck, UNLV
Hauck got a win over fellow Dead Pool swimmer Dan Enos and Central Michigan last weekend. That says nothing, as I am picking UNLV to fall to FCS Western Illinois this weekend. Hauck is done, especially with a new AD expected to be in place in the coming weeks. Change is necessary.
Lane Kiffin, USC
Kiffin is basically in more trouble than anyone else in the Pool, and had he lost to Boston College at home last weekend, I am certain that he could have been replaced as early as this week. Kiffin is now 2-1 this season, but Utah State is coming to town, and I am not lying when I say that the Aggies are probably the better team. A loss to USU would set off the fan base like an atomic cloud.
Dan Enos, Central Michigan
CMU fell at UNLV this week, and that's as bad as it gets. The Chippewas only win this season came against FCS New Hampshire, and came only by a field goal. Remember, CMU is not that far removed from the Brian Kelly/Dan LeFevour years, with major winning coming in recent history. The fan base and the administration cannot be happy about anything that they are seeing. If Enos goes, and he will, CMU has to get back to the tried and true formula of hiring an established, winning lower division coach to take over, not an unproven assistant with no experience like Enos.
Mack Brown, Texas
This was supposed to be a monster year for Texas, and it's been more like a nightmare about the monster under the bed. Texas has been blown out in back to back contests by BYU and Ole Miss, a change was already made at DC, and the fan base is turning rabidly against Brown and his staff. It's become apparent that Brown has lost this team, and the game has gotten by him. Sometimes, change can be good.
