Missouri Valley Conference Players of the Week

This week's Missouri Valley Football Conference Players of the Week include RB Vernon Scott of Missouri State; QB Mike Perish of Indiana State; LB Dallas Brown of South Dakota State; and P Nick Liste of Youngstown State.
 
Co-Offense
RB Vernon Scott, Missouri State
6-0, 170, Sr., Muskogee (Okla.) High
 Scott carried 26 times for a career-high 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead all players in Saturday’s 41-38 Bears’ loss at Murray State. Scott notched the most rushing yards by a MSU player since Cody Pratt posted 217 yards vs. Drake on 9/2/04. His first TD, a 25-yarder set the pace for the Bears who registered 34 first downs and 578 total yards in the contest. His second score gave the Bears a 31-26 fourth-quarter lead and capped a 54-yard scoring drive with a 3-yard carry.

Co-Offense
QB Mike Perish, Indiana State
6-3, 210, Jr., Frankfort (Ill.) Marist High
 Perish was 23-of-26 passing for 379 yards with four passing touchdowns and one on the ground as the Sycamores went over 70 points for the first time since 1925 in their 70-7 victory over Quincy. Perish had 379 passing yards which are the fourth-most in a single-game in school history and was part of a school record 433 passing yards, topping a 2006 effort against Missouri State. Perish’s completion percentage of 88.4 percent (23-of-26) is likewise a new school record. Perish added a one-yard touchdown run at the start of the second quarter to give him a part of five of a school record 10 TDs on the day. 

Defense
LB Dallas Brown, South Dakota State
5-11, 190, R-Fr., Tucson (Arizona) Sabino
 In his first career start, Brown intercepted a pair of passes and was credited with six tackles in South Dakota State’s 34-26 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Both of Brown’s interceptions came on Southeastern’s last two offensive possessions; the first interception he returned 52 yards for a touchdown with 2:25 to play. The second interception also came near midfield with just over a minute remaining, sealing the Jackrabbit victory.
Brown was moved from safety to linebacker midway through fall camp.

Special Teams
P Nick Liste, Youngstown State
5-10, 185, Sr., Niles (Ohio) Niles McKinley
 Liste continued his strong start to the season averaging 50.9 yards per punt on seven kicks in the defeat at Michigan State. Against the Spartans, Liste had punts of 62, 55, 53, 52, 50, 48 and 46 yards in the contest. He also had four kickoffs, two of which were touchbacks. Through three games, Liste is averaging 49.6 yards per punt. He has nine kicks of 50 yards or more this season.
