FBS Independents 2017 Projections

With Notre Dame crashing and burning last season, the power in the Independent game has shifted. BYU and Army made a major push to take over the mantle. Notre Dame is a major enigma this fall once again, and BYU is a major favorite to be the best of the Indies once again.

1. BYU: Tanner Mangum finally gets the job without looking over his shoulder at QB. The Cougars are primed to win at least 8 or 9 this season, and could win more with some breaks.

2. Notre Dame: Irish are looking for a bounce back season, as Brian Kelly's seat is white hot. If Brandon Wimbush does not live up to billing behind a very good line, this season will get ugly.

3. Army: 2016 was a big year for Jeff Monken's crew, and there was a win over Navy to boot. Repeating that result will be difficult as they now have a target on them.

4. U Mass: A two win season, and no conference affiliation have me wonder how long the Minutemen can go on as an independent. A return to FCS football should be a center discussion.
