Old Dominion 24, Eastern Michigan 20
A late defensive effort kept Eastern Michigan from winning their first bowl appearance since 1987, and Old Dominion held on for their first ever bowl win.
David Washington did not have his best effort of the season at QB for ODU, but he still managed to pass for 3 TDs, his 11th multiple TD effort of the season, and he finished passing for 188 yards on 11/20. That effort was enough to carry the Monarchs to the win.
ODU had a 10-0 lead at the half, but EMU scored 17 in the 3rd to make it a game, and the teams were tied heading into the final quarter.
Ray Lawry rushed for 133 yards on the day for ODU, his 3rd straight game over 100 yards, but he was shut out of the end zone.
Brogan Roback led the way for EMU, passing for 300 yards and a pair of TDs, one each to Sergio Bailey II and Johnnie Niupalau, but also tossed a pick on the day. The Eagles rushed for 170 yards as a team, but no one back rushed for more than 63 yards on the day.
Neither team averaged over 40 yards per punt.
Despite only 44 points total being scored, the teams combined for 864 yards and 48 1st downs.
EMU converted on 13/20 3rd downs on the day in the loss.
EMU ran 85 plays to just 59 for ODU.
2017 Season Openers: Albany at Old Dominion (9/2); Charlotte at Eastern Michigan (9/2)
