Southern Mississippi 28, UL-Lafayette 21
Southern Miss won their first bowl since 2011, picking up the win over UL-Lafayette in New Orleans. USM opened up a 14-0 lead, and then was forced to hang on late to take home their 11th all-time bowl win against 12 losses. Nick Mullins passed for 346 yards and 2 scores for the Golden Eagles in the win, coming back from injuries that derailed a chunk of the 2016 season.
ULL finished with 6 losses in their final 8 games. LSU transfer Anthony Jennings had a horrible day, completing just 8/20 passes on the day for 95 yards. Elijah McGuire was the offensive player of the day for the Ragin Cajuns with 99 yards rushing on 17 carries, while Jennings rushed 20 times for just 19 yards. Allenzae Stiggers caught 11 passes for 230 yards and a TD for the Eagles. Ito Smith added 26 carries for 118 yards, as he rushed for 2 scores and caught a third on a pass from Mullins.
USM is now 39-11-1 all-time vs. ULL.
USM has a 62-20-1 record all-time against the Sun Belt.
USM outgained ULL 481 yards to just 252 yards.
USM finished 7/14 on 3rd downs on the day.
