Coaches on the Hot Seat: 2014 Volume 3

It's time once again to see who is sitting on the Hot Seat after week four has closed out. Let's update this list, and see who is sitting, who has come off the seat, and who may have fallen off and into the Dead Pool...

Bill Blankenship, Tulsa
This week: Did not play
Status: Still on the seat at 1-2. Needs a strong streak to get going soon.
Likelihood of Change: Strong after the season.

Tony Levine, Houston
This week: Beat UNLV 47-14
Status: Cooler
Likelihood of Change: Low...still needs to recover from slow start to season.

Curtis Johnson, Tulane
This Week: Lost to Duke 47-13
Status: Hotter
Likelihood of Change: More likely in 2015 than this season.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson
This Week: Lost to Florida State 23-17 (OT)
Status: Hotter
Likelihood of Change: Not much as of now, but UGA and FSU losses are making folks angry.

Mike London, Virginia
This Week: Lost to BYU 41-33
Status: Even
Likelihood of Change: We shall see as we get into ACC play heavy. Could go either way.

Al Golden, Miami
This Week: Lost to Nebraska 41-31
Status: Hotter
Likelihood of Change: 2015 looks plausible, but if the Canes go off the rails, could be sooner.

Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech
This Week: Lost to Georgia Tech 27-24
Status: Hotter
Likelihood of Change: This campaign is gaining steam, but he won't leave without a fight.

Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech
This Week: Idle
Status: Even
Likelihood of Change: This season can't be going worse considering the Red Raiders are 2-1. The honeymoon in Lubbock is over.

Paul Rhoades, Iowa State
This Week: Idle
Status: Cooler
Likelihood of Change: He has a long contract, and ISU likely doesn't have the cash to buy him out. HE did beat Iowa last week, giving him some breathing room.

Brady Hoke, Michigan
This Week: Lost to Utah 26-10
Status: Red Hot
Likelihood of Change: Higher than ever. In losses to Utah and Notre Dame, the Wolverines are averaging just 5 points per game. They are giving up 28.5. Hoke is just one, maybe two bad losses away from being fired. It doesn't look good.

Kyle Flood, Rutgers
This Week: Beat Navy 31-24
Status: Cooler
Likelihood of Change: Despite a new two year extension, Flood is still under extreme pressure to get to a bowl in their first Big 10 season, especially with Greg Schiano kicking around.

Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern
This Week: Beat Western Illinois 24-7
Status: Hot
Likelihood of Change: Higher than average. This has been an absolute disaster of a season for the Wildcats. The win over WIU, despite it being the first of the season, was a sloppy mess. Patience is wearing out.

David Bailiff, Rice
This Week: Lost to Old Dominion 45-42
Status: Hot
Likelihood of Change: Up in the air. Nobody really talks much about him in the media, but the up and down ride is really out of control. There has been zero consistency at Rice under his watch, and the loss to ODU shows it.

Jeff Quinn, Buffalo
This Week: Defeated Norfolk State 26-7
Status: High Heat
Likelihood of Change: Pretty high at this point. Short of a major turn around, Quinn could be out. Buffalo is only 2-2, with both wins coming against FCS programs (Duquesne, Norfolk State).

Paul Haynes, Kent State
This Week: Idle
Status: Very Hot
Likelihood of Change: Haynes has let the program slide back to the dark ages of the pre-Hazell days. That cannot be allowed to continue.

Dan Enos, Central Michigan
This Week: Lost to Kansas 24-10
Status: High Heat
Likelihood of Change: Extreme. Enos really got everyone hyped by beating Purdue, but the Chippewas have not won since, and the loss to Kansas should have been a game in which CMU found some heart. It didn't happen.

Bobby Hauck, UNLV
This Week: Lost to Houston 47-13
Status: Almost in the Dead Pool
Likelihood of Change: Very high. UNLV is coming off their first bowl appearance in 20 years, a game which was lost. Then there was the issue of the APR thing. Got over that. How does Hauck respond? He's gotten hammered in every FBS game UNLV has played.

Bob Davie, New Mexico
This Week: Beat New Mexico State 38-35
Status: High Heat
Likelihood of Change: High. Beating arch rival NMSU really saved his hide for a week, but wins won't come easy.

Will Muschamp, Florida
This Week: Lost to Alabama 42-21
Status: One loss from Dead Pool
Likelihood of Change: That depends on how the Gators respond to the Alabama loss. If they tank in SEC play, he's in the Dead Pool and gone.

Trent Miles, Georgia State
This Week: Lost to Washington 45-14
Status: Even
Likelihood of Change: Up in the air. After an 0-12 run last season, it looks like GSU could be the bottom team in the Sun Belt again, and finish with a 1-11 record. Can anyone survive a 1-23 start?
