It's time for our weekly update on the Coaching Hot Seat. The week has been quiet so far as per rumblings around college football of coaches feeling more heat than usual, and for one coach in particular, we'll save him for the Dead Pool. Here is our update for this week...
Trent Miles, Georgia State
Miles got the Panthers playing in a better direction this week, but came up short in a 30-27 defeat against South Alabama. It was a good effort against a good football team, but GSU is going to have to find ways to win close games, especially in conference. The Panthers are 1-6, making Miles 1-18 in two seasons.
Doug Martin, New Mexico State
The Aggies fell to Idaho this week. Yes, Idaho. If you can't beat Idaho, who ca you beat at this point?
NMSU is now 2-6, and ranked 119th in our weekly PRS Rankings.
Curtis Johnson, Tulane
Tulane dropped a 20-13 loss to UCF on Saturday, and Johnson relented to starting Nick Montana. Tulane is now just 2-5, and ranked 114th.
Ron Turner, FIU
Back to the Hot Seat goes Turner. After FIU pulled even to post a 3-3 record, the Panthers have now dropped two in a row to fall to 3-5, and they have plummeted back to 110th in the PRS.
Paul Rhoades, Iowa State
The Cyclones gave Texas all they could handle, but just like Georgia State, cannot win the close ones. ISU is now 2-5, and ranked 108th.
Bob Davie, New Mexico
The Lobos are close to being bowl ineligible, and that's bad news for Davie in his third season. The Lobos pushed Air Force, but came up short, 35-31.
Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern
The Wildcats have got to finish 3-2 to remain bowl eligible, but are 3-4 right now. IF they fail to get there, Northwestern will have gone two seasons without a bowl bid.
Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech
The Red Raiders beat the worst team in the Big 12, Kansas, 34-21. It only gets tougher for the 3-4 Red Raiders from here.
Butch Jones, Tennessee
The Vols are now just 3-4 on the season, and were a non-player in a 34-3 loss to Ole Miss. This is not Vols football.
Kevin Wilson, Indiana
This season was supposed to be the year that the Hoosiers broke through. Injuries have been tough, but that can no longer be an excuse. IU needs a 3-2 finish to skid to a bowl bid.
Larry Fedora, North Carolina
A win over Georgia Tech (48-43) is nice, but the 304 record is a joke. UNC has no identity under Fedora.
Dan Enos, Central Michigan
Enos can still save his season and his job. A 2-2 finish would get CMU bowl eligible, but it would likely not be enough to guarantee a bid. I would say that CMU has to go at least 3-1 to get that bid. If they fail, Enos is likely a Dead Pooler.
