NBA Free Agency Report: Deals Are Plentiful In Early Hours, Especially For Tier 2 Players

Here are the rest of the early signings of this free agency period in the NBA:

Celtics Re-Sign Aron Baynes
The Celtics re-signed one of their 2 priority FAs in the Center on a 2 year deal worth $11 million. The second season is a player option on the deal. Marcus Smart is still unsigned, and the Celtics have approximately $11 million on the books under the luxury tax to get a deal done, but that could be tight, considering the market for Smart at this point.

Spurs Re-Sign Gay, Green, Sign Belinelli
The Spurs will stay over the cap after signing Rudy Gay to a Non-Bird deal for one season at $10 million. He had some interest outside of the franchise after opting out of his deal at $9 million, but worked out a deal to build further value with San Antonio for next summer, when more teams will have expendable cap space.
Danny Green signed his deal to return as well, and the Spurs managed to bring in Marco Belinelli, bringing him back home to San Antonio, where he played from 2013-15 before playing with the Sixers in 2016/17.
With this group of signings, the Spurs ensure that they have not only stayed over the cap, but that they are also not in a rebuilding mode at this time.

Mavs Finally Get Their Man, Sign DeAndre Jordan
The Mavericks have been trying, for some extended period of time, to sign DeAndre Jordan away from the Clippers, and they finally got their man yesterday, as they signed him to a one year $24.1 million deal.
He is a force inside, and gives the Mavs a big that they can pair with Luca Doncic, the rookie acquired on draft night.
The Mavs did select not to pick up the option on Dirk Nowitzki, but that does not mean that they plan not to sign him to a deal outside of the Bird rule. Jordan, at this point, is an upgrade over the aging Nowitzki, as he gives them a more physical presence in the paint.

Brooklyn Signs 2 In First Hour
The Nets brought back their top reserve, Guard Joe Harris for 2 years and $16 million, while they also reunited backup Center Ed Davis with Jeremy Lin. Harris gives the Nets scoring off the bench, and has improved each year in his stay with the Nets, while Davis adds some depthoff the bench in the paint, and averaged 6.5 rebounds per game as a reserve in Portland last season. Davis and Lin both played with the Lakers in the past, and have worked well together. Both signings came within the first 45 minutes of free agency, and Harris had drawn interest from both Indiana and Golden State.

Thunder Adds Depth, Brings Back Grant, Signs Noel
Oklahoma City re-signed Forward Jerami Grant to keep some depth, and then added more front court depth by signing reclamation project Nerlens Noel from the Mavs for an undisclosed amount of cash. Noel's deal will be a 2 year deal with a player option for the second year, while Grant signed for 3 years and $27 million.

Indiana Adds Much Needed Wing Depth In McDermott
The Pacers had been hot on the trail of both Denver's Will Barton and Brooklyn's Joe Harris, but finally landed their guy after both targets re-signed with their teams in Doug McDermott, the journeyman from Dallas who will now be with his 5th team at age 26. McDermott gets a 3 year deal worth $22 million and gives the Pacers a wing that they lost when their own Glenn Robinson III left for a deal with Detroit after playing in just 23 games last season. McDermott shot a career high 49.4% from 3 point range last season in Dallas, and gives the Pacers a huge presence when clutch 3 pointers will be needed.

Wolves Bring Back Rose At Discounted Rate
Much injured, and highly over hyped PG Derrick Rose has agreed to return to Minnesota on a one year deal worth just $2.2 million for the 2018/19 season. While this signing does not signal a seismic shift in philosophy for Minnesota, it gives them some stability this season as the franchise continues to show improvement long term. It's a team friendly deal that does not keep them from trying to sign Karl Anthony Towns to a long term deal.

Memphis Adds Depth, Signs Casspi
This deal means little in the scheme of things, but it is a one year deal for the journeyman forward who started 7 games at Golden State last season, but was waived for the playoffs. He provides some end of the bench competition for the Grizzlies at worst, but could end up cut if he does not earn a roster spot in the playoffs. Terms, other than deal length, were not disclosed.

Gerald Green Returns to Houston On Minimum Deal
Gerald Green scored 12.1 points per game off the bench, and gave the Rockets a clutch presence when needed last season. With Trevor Ariza gone, getting him back in the fold was highly necessary as a bench presence. He gets a one year deal worth $2.4 million against the cap.

Blazers Sign Stauskas On Minimum Deal
Portland signed Nic Stauskas to a veteran minimum deal worth $1.6 million for one season. He essentially replaces Shabazz Napier, whose option was not picked up by the team over the weekend. He has averaged 7 points per game, and will be on his 4th team since 2014.
