Detroit nailed a huge need on the wing, as they signed Glenn Robinson III to a one and one deal worth $8 million. He gets one season guaranteed with a team option for the 2019/20 season. He was limited to just 23 games after a promising 2016/17 season with an ankle injury.
The Pistons are banking on a solid return from injury, and they push Stanley Johnson, who has trended in the wrong direction. If Robinson does not bounce back, they still have Johnson, and they cut the deal at one season.
This is a high reward, low risk deal for Detroit, but do not expect much more movement for the Pistons, as they are trying to avoid the league luxury tax, even with an increased salary cap for the 2018/19 season.
If Robinson returns to the form that made the Pacers excited during the 2016/17 season, this could be a move that, at the very least, pushes the Pistons to a lower playoff seed in the East, and does so at little overall cost.
