New York has been awful for as long as anyone can remember. What they have done this week, however, is stay consistent, and draw from confident moves that speak of a slow building process, rather than a throw money at everything that moves philosophy. In that vein, the Knicks announced that Enes Kanter will opt in to his player option, and they signed Mario Hezonja, who has languished in anonymity in Orlando since being drafted in the same class as Knicks star Kritaps Porzingas. With Porzingas to miss most of the upcoming season, the Knicks get two solid veterans, and don't have to kill their budget to do so. Hezonja will provide some depth, and signed to specifically play for head coach David Fizdale, one of the more solid hires of the coaching carousel in the NBA this season. He gets a one year deal worth $6.5 million. Again, low risk, high reward.
More to come as the free agency frenzy continues.
