PASS: Baylor, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Texas

Baylor remains in solid contention for the Big 12 title under Jim Grobe, who is coaching amazingly this season. They rout Kansas 42-7, and remain on a collision course with both Oklahoma and West Virginia.

Speaking of Oklahoma, they finally looked like themselves in a 38-17 win over Kansas State. OU is shockingly 3-0 in Big 12 play. That said, they have to play defense like they did yesterday when they meet Baylor and WVU, not like they did against Texas.

West Virginia remains a huge surprise this season, and if not for Jim Grobe, Dana Holgorsen would be a leader for Big 12 coach of the year right now. The Mountaineers had no trouble with Texas Tech yesterday, and look to be the most complete team that Holgo has had in Morgantown.

Texas absolutely had to win yesterday against Iowa State. The Longhorns not only did that, but managed to play solid defense as well, holding Iowa State, who scored 42 on Baylor, to just 6 points in a 27-6 win. Charlie Strong was coaching for his very life yesterday, and it showed.

FAIL: Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Iowa State

Kansas is so bad, that national writers are following my lead in predicting the demise of David Beaty. The program is not developing in year two, and short of a miracle, how can it get much better in 2017? It can’t. Kansas is at rock bottom.

Kansas State is showing signs of falling, and lost Jesse Ertz to injury yesterday in a 3 TD loss to Oklahoma. Ertz is a bad QB, so anyone behind him has to be worse…much worse.

Texas Tech is prepping for their annual conference play collapse under Kliff Kingsbury, and if he succeeds in holding onto his job in 2017, I will likely eat a prospective hat. The Red Raiders weren’t in the game against WVU yesterday, and what is worse is that the local broadcast team on radio didn’t even seem phased by that. Listening on Sirius Radio, it seemed like a resigned broadcast.

Poor Matt Campbell. If only I had a moment to speak with him before he signed his contract at Iowa State. Sometimes our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, and his certainly seemed to be when he landed at the coaching graveyard known at Iowa State. While 1-6, they could easily be 3-4, but this football team is horrible. Give him time to work it out, but this is going to be one tough job.
