PASS: California, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Washington State
Cal needed double OT to hold off Oregon 52-49, but the Bears did get a much needed win, and are now 2-2 in the North. They are not in the running for the division title. but they are moving ever closer to another bowl bid under Sonny Dykes. In the end, it's another middling Cal season.
Washington continues to roll in PAC-12 play, beating Oregon State 41-17. The Huskies are still unbeaten, and must remain so to get into the final four. They remain in a tie for the North lead with Washington State, making the Apple Cup one of the most interesting games scheduled this season if all remains the same until then.
Utah got over 300 yards rushing from Joe Williams alone, and the Utes held off UCLA 52-45 in a game that never seemed that close at times. Kyle Whittingham is doing his best coaching job this season when you consider that he has suffered 17 injuries to starters this season, with 5 being gone for the year.
Colorado struggled on offense, but their defense came through in a major way in a low ball 10-5 win over Stanford. Colorado kept up pace with Utah in the South. Mike McIntyre finally has the Buffs heading where they need to be, and may be the conference coach of the year, if he can beat out Chris Petersen.
Washington State had a war of words all week with Arizona State, and came out on top 37-32. The Cougars are right in line Washington in the North, and Mike Leach has once again brought the Cougars back from a terrible start.
FAIL: Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Stanford, Arizona State
The Ducks are now 0-4 in conference play, and are 2-5 overall. The defense is a mess, recruiting has fallen short, the starting lineup is loaded with freshman, which screams recruiting shortcomings, and the QB situation is all over the place. Mark Helfrich could be on his way out, and it could come sooner than later.
Gary Anderson is performing at major rebuild at Oregon State, but this week was not a great week in the process, falling to Washington 41-17. Anderson is going to need another 2 years to get this thing right, as the cupboard was empty upon his arrival.
UCLA gave up over 300 yards rushing to one player for the first time ever. Jim Mora is just 11-10 in his last 21 games, and is just 6-8 in his last 14 PAC-12 games. Pressure is building on him, as the Bruins are just 1-4 in conference play this season, one half game out of last place in the South.
Stanford has now bottomed out, and scored just a whopping 5 points in a loss to Colorado. The offense is gone, and the Cardinal are now just 2-3 in PAC-12 play. I felt that Stanford would step back in 2016, but this is worse than I saw coming.
Arizona State has completely fallen out of the race in the South, and is now 2-3 in conference play after falling to Washington State. Todd Graham is still showing how he is one of the most overrated coaches in the nation.
