Florida 30, Iowa 3
Florida scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to pull away from Iowa in the Outback Bowl in Tampa. The Gators had led just 10-3 at the half. For Florida, it was their first bowl win under Jim McElwain, and for Iowa, it was their worst scoring game in a bowl since 1993.
Austin Appleby passed for 222 yards and 2 TDs in the win for the Gators, but also tossed a pair of picks. He finished 14/25 passing on the day.
Iowa finished with just 226 yards of offense, their worst output of the season, and turned the football over 3 times, which tied a season high. Florida scored 13 points off of those turnovers.
Iowa has now lost 4 consecutive bowls, with 3 of those losses coming by at least 17 points. CJ Beathard was awful at QB for Iowa, completing just 7 passes for 55 yards. He also tossed 3 picks, just the scond time in his career at Iowa that he has thrown more than one in a game.
Florida RB Mark Thompson caught an 85 yard scoring pass. He had just 20 receiving yards all season entering the game.
Akrum Woodley moved past 1000 yards for the season, joining LeShun Daniels in the 1000 yard club this season for Iowa. This was the first time in school history that the Hawkeyes have ever had 2 1000 yard rushers in the same season.
Iowa managed 171 yards rushing in the loss, but just 55 yards passing. Wadley finished with 115 yards on the ground.
Jordan Scarlett led Florida with 94 yards rushing on 14 carries, but did not score.
Wadley also led Iowa with 4 receptions for just 21 yards.
Johnny Townsend was helpful for the Gators field position on defense, as he averaged 45.5 yards per punt.
Iowa actually won the battle of 1st downs, with 14 to Florida's 11.
Despite scoring 30 points, Florida finished with just 331 yards of offense.
Iowa averaged just 3.5 yards per play.
Florida committed 8 penalties, while Iowa committed only 1.
