Stanford 25, North Carolina 23
Stanford held off a UNC 2 point conversion in the final minute, and the Cardinal survived the absence of Christian McCaffrey to beat the Tar Heels in El Paso. Stanford finishes the seasonw tih 6 straight wins to get their 10th of the year after a 4-3 start. Carolina was trending the other way, losing 3 of their final 4 games of the year to finish at 8-5.
Stanford Safety Dallas Lloyd was the star of the day, recording 6 tackles, a forced fumble, and 2 INTs, the last of which went for a pick 6 to put Stanford ahead for the win. Stanford kicker Conrad Ukropina was also a star, hitting on 4/5 FGs to further provide a margin of victory.
Bryce Love caught just one pass all day in replacing McCaffrey, who sat out to prepare for the NFL draft, but that was a 42 yard TD strike, the only Stanford offensive TD of the day. He finished with 115 yards rushing.
Mitch Trubisky finished by throwing for 280 yards and 2 TDs, but also tossed 2 picks, one of which went for the go ahead score for Stanford.
North Carolina has now lost their last 3 bowl appearances. and Larry Fedora is now just 1-4 in bowls.
Stanford now has won 10 games for 10 consecutive seasons, and had only accomplished that feat 3 times ever before that.
