College Football Week 8 Stretch Run Report: AAC

We are on the back nine of the college football season, and so I am switching from PASS/FAIL mode to examining how conference races are ratcheting up for the stretch run. Here is my look at the AAC:

Still In The Chase: East
UCF (6-0, 4-0)
USF (7-0, 4-0)
As it stands, we are in the final chase between two teams to rep the Eastern Division of the AAC, and it is between who it has been in charge all season. The Knights have been a furious contender, blowing people out on a regular basis until a 10 point win took hold over Navy this week. USF was the favorite in the league all season, and is really just coming into that role in recent weeks. USF barely escaped Tulane this week 34-28, while allowing the Green Wave to claw back in late.

Out of the East Race: U Conn, Temple, East Carolina, Cincinnati
Coaches In Jeopardy, East: Scottie Montgomery, East Carolina

Still in the Chase: West
Memphis (6-1, 3-1)
SMU (5-2, 2-1)
Navy (5-2, 3-2)
Houston (4-3, 2-2)
Tulane (3-4, 2-3)
The real truth is that this is a two horse race right now between Memphis and SMU. Memphis has already beaten Houston and Navy, and will be a heavy favorite to take Tulane out of the race this week. SMU and Memphis play 11/18 at the Liberty Bowl.
Navy and Houston need two Memphis losses at this point, and would need to win out to be in this conversation in a deeper manner, while Tulane would be mathematically eliminated from consideration this week by losing to the Tigers.

Bowl Eligible: USF, UCF, Memphis
