College Football Week 8 Stretch Run Report: ACC

Still in the Race: Coastal
NC State (6-1, 4-0)
Clemson (6-1, 4-1)
Syracuse (4-4, 2-2)
Everyone knew that the Wolf Pack would be very good coming into the season, but I don't think anyone saw them being the leader of the Pack at this point of the season. NC State has already beaten Syracuse, but Clemson is coming up in two weeks, after the Pack has a non con date with Notre Dame this week that could be trouble. Even if they lose, it would not effect the ACC race.
Clemson has the shocking loss to the Orange, and with one more loss, could find themselves in third place. It's shocking at this point. Clemson is still being tagged as a playoff birth team, but they have more than a little to prove before I buy in at this point, and that has to do with beating the Wolf Pack on 11/4.
Syracuse is the surprise team here. They already have the win over Clemson, but the loss to NC State would hold them back, so they need Clemson to take care of that problem, and get one more team to knock off NC State, while the Orange wins out. The problem there is that after Clemson, NC State's schedule gets very easy.

Out of the Race, Coastal: Boston College, Louisville, Florida State, Wake Forest

Still in the Race: Atlantic
Miami (6-0, 4-0)
Georgia Tech (4-2, 3-1)
Virginia Tech (6-1, 2-1)
Virginia (5-2, 2-1)
Miami has a huge advantage by having narrowly escaped with a 25-24 win over Georgia Tech. They do, however, still have games coming up against both Virginia Tech and Virginia in this race, so it is far from over, and let's face it, Miami is still one of the weaker remaining unbeaten teams in the nation right now.
Georgia Tech would more than love to have another shot at the Hurricanes, but that water has past. They need Miami to lose twice to break a tie that one loss would create. The next three weeks are brutal for them, with Clemson, Virginia, and Virginia Tech all coming up in order.
Virginia Tech probably has as much control over their destiny as anyone at this point, with Miami, Georgia Tech, and Virginia all on their schedule, and these are games that the Hokies could win all of. Their only loss in ACC play is to Clemson.
Virginia is an outside shot candidate at this point, and getting blown out this weekend by Boston College does not help their cause. Consider them as the four seed in what should be a four team divisional playoff during the next month of the season.

Out of the Race: Pittsburgh, Duke, North Carolina
