College Football PASS/FAIL Report: Sun Belt Week 3

SUN BELT

PASS: Idaho, Georgia Southern, South Alabama

The Vandals certainly get respect for handling a top tier FCS Wofford program at home in a 41-38 win, a game that many thought they could lose. Building is about winning when you should.

It was like a blast to the SoCon days for Georgia Southern, and just like in the old days, the Eagles ripped Citadel 48-13. Another FCS pass however, much like Arkansas State, who picked up a 70-7 cupcake pass win over Missouri State.

South Alabama, who has been largely awful this season, went into San Diego, and pulled out a huge win over the Aztecs of San Diego State in OT. Talk about a much needed boost win, and this was it.

FAIL: Georgia State, Troy, Texas State, New Mexico State

When it comes to Georgia State, failing grades are largely expected. The offense did their part today, but that defense was non-existent…again. The Panthers are one of the all-time worst programs.

Troy was never expected to be in it at Wisconsin, and they largely were not in the second half, but they played tough for a while. It’s an experience to build on as Neal brown tries to put the pieces back together.

If the Bobcats of Texas State want to be taken seriously, you cannot score 50 and give up 56 to a vulnerable Southern Miss club that has been terrible for years. This was a win within grasp, and TSU failed to get their claws on it. This is a shameful loss at home.

The Aggies of New Mexico State are still a huge mess, but it’s mostly on the back of the defense, as they allowed UTEP off the ropes in a messy 50-47 loss to the Miners. NMSU has now twice allowed victory to get away from them this season.
