Coaches on the Hot Seat: 2015 Volume 1

Here's the latest Hot Seat list for the 2015 season:

Larry Fedora, North Carolina
Fedora saved some heat this weekend for having blasted North Carolina A&T, but the Heels haven't beaten anyone yet this season. Fedora hasn't given a return on his hiring just yet, and the heat will only increase if he fails in games that matters.

Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech
The Hokies fell apart after Michael Brewer got hurt against Ohio State. The Hokies blasted Furman 42-3 this weekend, but the schedule will only get tougher. Tech has been basically irrelevant in ACC play for years, and it may be time for him to retire shortly.

Willie Taggert, USF
Taggert turned Western Kentucky around, but so far, the rebuilding process at USF hasn't gone as expected. He won't likely see too much pressure this season, but I only give it until the middle or end of this season before the dial gets turned up.

Paul Rhoades, Iowa State
Despite the loss to Iowa, it's not a Dead Pool situation just yet. The win over Northern Iowa helped, but a road trip to Toledo looms, and Rhoades needs to get wins where he can. He may be counting on Toledo to have a letdown this weekend after their win over Arkansas.

Charlie Strong, Texas
I am hedging on the fact that Steve Patterson was fired as AD today in Austin. Strong has allies in Austin, and he did inherit a dire situation when he was hired. His status largely depends on who ends up running the show.

Darrell Hazell, Purdue
After getting beaten by Marshall, Purdue largely showed improvements against FCS member Indiana State. Hazell inherited a mess when he was hired, but it's time to start showing progress, and if he doesn't, there will be no hesitation to move on.

Kevin Wilson, Indiana
Indiana is 2-0, so this shouldn't be an issue. It's how they are 2-0 that is the issue. Narrow wins over hardly stalwarts Southern Illinois and FIU have people nervous in Bloomington, because there are flaws that have been exposed.

Randy Edsell, Maryland
That loss to Bowling Green this week, coming off a game that the Terps had to struggle to pull away from Richmond, and it looks like the Terps will be vulnerable in conference play again. There has already been the QB change that comes with pressure.

Paul Haynes, Kent State
Kant State has been outscored 65-48 despite blowing out Delaware State this weekend. The win over the Hornets may very well be the only game where they are favored. This program is slipping into the depths again, and it has to be stopped.

Mike Leach, Washington State
Call me crazy, but there has been some grumbling by some that the money spent on Leach hasn't been worth it so far. Leach has to get this program turned around faster than he has, and the loss to Portland State was mitigated only so much by the win over Rutgers.

Todd Berry, UL-Monroe
ULM is 1-1, but only after a win over Nicholls State. Berry got the dial moved in the right direction as of two years ago, but now the needle is reversing course, and the heat is dialing up.
