It was, as expected, a nice week for the SEC as the league finished 11-1. It should be mentioned, however, that only four of those wins came against power five schools. Of course, they aren't much different than any other league this week in that regard, but it should be noted.
SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE
PASS: South Carolina, Georgia, Ole Miss, Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama
South Carolina was not good on offense at all, but they picked off North Carolina three times, all on scoring opportunities by North Carolina, and the Gamecocks held off the Tar Hells 17-13. Skai Moore picked off both passes in the end zone.
Nick Chubb rushed for two TDs, and the Georgia Bulldogs raced to a 35-7 lead at the half in a 51-13 win over UL-Monroe. The game was called in the 4th due to lightning.
Ole Miss ran out to a 41-0 lead at the half over UT-Martin, and won 76-3 over the FCS Sky Hawks. Chad Kelly counted for three total TDs on the day, and the Rebels scored their most points in a game since 1935.
Auburn jumped out to a 17-0 lead on Louisville, and then held on to win 24-17. Jeremy Johnson certainly didn't live up to his billing, as he tossed three picks against two picks, but it was sophomore RB Peyton Barber leading the way at RB with 109 yards rushing after rushing for 54 yards his entire freshman season.
Arkansas blasted out to a 28-10 lead on UTEP at the half, and cruised 48-13. Brandon Allen passed for 308 yards and four TDs on the night in the easy win at home.
Tennessee fended off a pesky Bowling Green team, who got within 21-20, but then pulled away in a 59-30 win in Nashville. Alvin Kamara rushed for 144 yards and two scores to carry the day for the Vols.
Missouri was not sharp, but pulled away in the second half, holding SE Missouri State to 56 yards rushing in a 34-3 win. LB Kentrell Brothers collected 16 tackles in the game for the Tigers.
Texas A&M beat Arizona State 38-17 in Houston, as the Aggies sacked Mike Bercovici nine times on the day. Myles Garrett had eight tackles, and forced a fumble on the night.
Kentucky held off UL-Lafayette 40-33 after blowing a 23 point lead. Patrick Towles carried the Wildcats as he passed for 257 yards and three scores on the night. The Cats had been 17 point favorites, but I never felt that they were going to be able to pull that off against a talented Cajuns team.
Florida outscored New Mexico State 27-0 in the second half on their way to a 61-13 win over the Aggies in Jim McElwain's debut as head coach. Will Grier passed for two scores, and rushed for another in the win. The defense held NMSU to just 200 yards on the game.
Alabama got an efficient game from Jakob Coker at QB, and the run game carried the night as Alabama beat Wisconsin in Dallas 35-17. Derrick Henry rushed for 147 yards and three scores on the game.
FAIL: Vanderbilt, Mississippi State
For the second consecutive season, Vanderbilt left their offense in the locker room, and Western Kentucky came from behind to handle the Commodores 14-12. Johnny McCrary had a chance to tie the game, but his 2 point conversion attempt fell short with 0:33 left in the game.
Mississippi State managed a 34-16 win over Southern Miss, but the Eagles gave the Bulldogs a massive challenge early. Dak Prescott helped MSU pull away in the second half, as he passed for two scores, and rushed for one more, but MSU looked sluggish to start the season with several new staters in place.
