Week 2 PASS/FAIL Report: Sun Belt

SUN BELT

PASS: Georgia Southern, UL-Monroe, UL-Lafayette, Texas State, Troy, Georgia State

Let’s get the free (FCS) passes out of the way, as UL-Monroe, UL-Lafayette, Texas State, and Troy all took that card this week, and all won.

Georgia Southern bounced back from a bad loss at West Virginia last week, to pound a very good Western Michigan program at home this week. This was a much needed win for the Eagles to get back on track before heading into conference play in a couple of weeks.

Georgia State picked up just their second win in three seasons in beating New Mexico State in a conference game 34-32 in the league toilet bowl game. GSU likely won’t finish dead last now.

FAIL: Idaho, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, South Alabama, New Mexico State

Idaho got blasted by USC, but got a decent check for doing so. Same could be said about Appalachian State and South Alabama in losses to Clemson and Nebraska.

Arkansas State actually led Missouri 17-10 at the half, and then failed to adjust out of the gate, and fell 27-20. When you have opportunities, you have to take them.

New Mexico State fell at home to hapless Georgia State in conference play, and has now won just five times in three seasons. And I get beaten up on by NMSU fans for calling this program out as a dead loser.
