Here's a look at who passed and failed in what was largely a cupcake week for the ACC in week one of the 2015 college football season...
ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE
PASS: Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Duke, Syracuse, Clemson, NC State, Miami, Florida State
Duke, NC State, and Florida State were the lone teams in the ACC this week to have beaten FBS schools, as Duke crushed Tulane on the road 37-7. and NC State hammered Troy 49-21, and Florida State crushed Texas State 59-16. The three teams all made statements in the opening week, but still must repeat this success against better competition. Still, they did nothing to disparage expectations.
Wake Forest (beat Elon 41-3), Georgia Tech (beat Alcorn State 69-6), Syracuse (beat Rhode Island 47-0), Clemson (beat Wofford 42-10), and Miami (beat Bethune-Cookman) 45-0 all should get checked for diabetes after feasting on cupcakes this week.
FAIL: North Carolina, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Louisville
North Carolina had South Carolina on the ropes countless times, but Marquise Williams didn't see an end zone pass that he didn't love getting picked off on. He threw three picks, all on scoring opportunities, and UNC lost to South Carolina 17-13 in Charlotte.
Virginia travelled to Pasadena and allowed UCLA freshman Josh Rosen to pass for three records and tie another in a 34-16 loss for the Cavaliers.
Louisville squandered three picks thrown by Auburn QB Jeremy Johnson, and fell short in their upset bid with Auburn in Atlanta. They weren't expected to win anyway, but they had their chances, and it's painful to not take advantage and steal the win.
Boston College and Pitt both fail despite winning, as BC struggled against an average Maine club at home in a 24-3 win, and Pitt had to hold tight all day from one charge after another by Youngstown State, and star RB James Connor was hurt in the process.
All in all, it wasn't a banner day for the ACC if the members weren't feasting on FCS clubs.
