When TCU and Baylor find themselves outside looking in when the playoffs
come around once again, you can look to games like these (Stephen F. Austin and
Lamar) as jumping points as to why the Frogs and Bears won’t get a shot at a
title…again. SOS will kill them. West
Virginia also took the same path to win easy this week (Liberty).
Oklahoma, in the meantime, if they can come up with some sort of
miracle and stay unbeaten, should get lots of love for taking down Tennessee in
Knoxville this week, especially after falling behind 17-3. The Sooner take on
Tulsa this week in a battle of 2-0 teams.
Kansas State cruised in what was a trap game, even after a slow
start at UTSA over the weekend. Kansas State, even without starter Jesse Ertz,
cruised once they found their groove.
Texas was probably a team that needed a win this weekend more than
any other school in America. It wasn’t always pretty, but the Longhorns found a
way to win after a controversial week coming off a blowout loss. Texas got away
with a 42-28 win over a pesky Rice club, and if it had gone the other way, the
Earth may have stopped turning.
FAIL: Oklahoma State, Kansas, Iowa State
Oklahoma State may have beaten Central Arkansas 32-8, but the
Cowboys played like crap outside of their QB this week. They had a narrow lead
at the half, and really didn’t overwhelm any aspect of the game against a very
mediocre at best UCA football team. Not impressed at all.
Kansas led Memphis 10-0 early, and then got drubbed 55-13 the rest
of the way, and got manhandled in every single way at home in a 55-23 loss. The
Jayhawks would be the worst team in the nation, but Wyoming saves them that
distinction this week.
Iowa State fell in the CyHawk classic, and that could signal the
end of the Paul Rhoades era at the end of the season if the Cyclones fall apart
from here on out. It’s all about the rebound at this point.
