BIG 12
PASS: Oklahoma,
Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech
Oklahoma bounced
back from an emotional win at Tennessee last week with a minor rivalry win over
Tulsa this week. The defense was a bit sloppy, but the offense looked
fantastic, especially Baker Mayfield.
For the first time, Oklahoma
State played a complete football game, and blasted UTSA 69-14. The Cowboys
found their footing at the right time as Big 12 play begins.
TCU gets a
pass on offense alone today, after largely struggling to pull away from SMU
last night. The Frogs lost another defensive starter to injury, and the heavy
lifting on the schedule hasn’t even begun yet. It’s hard for me to see TCU
getting to the end unscathed at this point.
Don’t look now, but Texas
Tech is 3-0 and beat Arkansas on the road 35-24. QB Patrick Mahomes is
becoming one of the finest QBs in the nation right now, and is in the top 3 in
our All-Bilo QB watch list. This was unexpected, but Tech looks like they are
much better than expected heading into the season.
FAIL: Kansas State,
Texas, Iowa State
K State showed
some serious vulnerable moments in a 39-33 OT win over Louisiana Tech. Teams
will use this film to find ways to exploit the Wildcat defense.
One almost has to feel sorry for Texas, as now they have found an offense, but the defense
completely crumbled in a 45-44 loss to Cal. Special teams did no favors either,
as UT missed a FG attempt to lose the game after a furious rally. Sometime
Charlie Strong just cannot win no matter how hard he tries.
The Paul Rhoades era looks more and more like it is
coming to an end after a road loss to Toledo by Iowa State last night. ISU has now lost back to back games since
beating FCS Northern Iowa in their opener, and the wheels are looking shaky on
the wagon right about now.
