Week 4 PASS/FAIL Report: SEC

SEC

PASS: Ole Miss, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Texas AM, Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi State

Ole Miss got a huge scare in a 27-16 win over Vanderbilt this week, but a win is a win, and Ole Miss still controls the SEC West.

Georgia should be ashamed for even scheduling Southern, despite the 48-6 win, but Georgia is too good a program to be taking up games with SWAC members.

LSU barely scraped by against Syracuse, 34-24, and with the Tigers getting all their offense from Leonard Fournette, the issue now is keeping him healthy.

Alabama heads into the meat of SEC play on the heels of an easy, but not perfect 34-0 win over UL-Monroe. Alabama still looks like they could struggle a bit in conference play, but they aren’t out of it yet.

Texas A&M got a challenge in their game with a reeling Arkansas club, but they got a jump with a 28-21 OT win. The Aggies are in solid shape, but are showing vulnerability.

Kentucky now has wins over South Carolina and Missouri, but they still boast a loss to Florida. The Wildcats, however, are still hurtling for a bowl bid as Mark Stoops has this program very much improved.

South Carolina picked up a much needed win, even if it was against a miserable UCF team. The Gamecocks need to repeat this type of action in SEC play now, and there lays the problem.

Florida is one of the most improved teams in the nation, and they came from behind in dramatic fashion and beat Tennessee. Jim McElwain has moved this program back in the right direction, which is back to the top of the SEC East.

Mississippi State already has one loss in SEC play, but the Bulldogs made a huge move by taking out Auburn, even if the only tool they have is at QB in Dak Prescott.

FAIL: Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Auburn

Vanderbilt hasn’t found any offense to date, and despite some solid defensive performances, they are still largely the worst team in the SEC. That’s not changing.

Arkansas is now 1-3 after what was expected to be a candidacy for the SEC West title. That is beyond a total pipedream now, and Arkansas may not even be in a bowl if things don’t change soon.

Missouri finally got nipped by an underperforming offense. The Tigers barely scraped together 13 points in a loss to Kentucky, and they are stuck in reverse.

Tennessee fans have blasted me for years as I criticize their program, their recruiting, and their coaching. I am not backing off, because the Vols are a big game choke right now after terrible 4th quarter collapses against Oklahoma and now Florida.

Auburn is still done. Even with a new QB, they are still done. The Tigers are a huge mess.
