Pass/Fail FBS Week 10

I put the cart in front of the horse this week by releasing the new rankings before the pass/fail report, but that does not hinder the purpose. I hope you enjoy this week's report.

ACC

Virginia Tech 28, Georgia Tech 21
Pass: David Wilson's 90 yard kick return for a score with 2:34 left propelled the Hokies to their 7th straight win.
Fail: Offensively, this game was a real dud for both sides. Neither side looked great passing the football, and only Anthony Allen of GT passed the 100 yard mark on the ground.

Miami 26, Maryland 20
Pass: Last week, Stephen Morris had his redshirt burned. This week, he ossed the game winning TD with 0:45 left in the game. He was a hero despite his 2 earlier picks.
Fail: Danny O'Brien of Maryland couldn't have hit a T-Rex with a bowling ball on Saturday, completing only 9 of his 28 passes.

Clemson 14, NC State 13
Pass: Jamie Harper punched it in from 4 yards out to win the game with 6:28 left.
Fail: Mistake after mistake on both sides. Bad game.

Duke 55, Virginia 48
Pass: Where did this Duke team come from? Sean Renfree passed for a score and ran for 2 more, and the Devils rushed for 6 scores in all to win the shootout.
Fail: Marc Verica gave it all he had by passing for 4 scores on the day for UVA. Where was his defense? Without the defense to support him, the Cavs were never able to set a pace.

Boston College 23, Wake Forest 13
Pass: BC is on a recovery mission after the season had gotten away from them. They have now won 2 straight, and are trying to push for a bowl. Montel Harris rushed for 183 yards.
Fail: Tanner Price tossed 4 picks. That equals a loss.

North Carolina 37, Florida State 35
Pass: TJ Yates went wild and passed for 435 yards on the day with 3 scores. Despite all of their issues this season, UNC looks good right now.
Fail: The Seminole defense had shown signs of brilliance earlier this season, but they fell completely apart against the passing game this week. Something has broken on this team.

BIG 12

Oklahoma State 55, Baylor 28
Pass: Brandon Weeden passed for 435 yards and 3 scores, while Justin Blackmon returned from suspension by catching 13 passes for 173 yards. Kendell Hunter added a pair of scores and the defense forced 3 turnovers.
Fail: Robert Griffin gave it all he had, but the defense never gave him a shot. The Bears found themselves down 24-0 at the half.

Kansas 52, Colorado 45
Pass: Kansas was down 45-17 coming into the 4th. Then Armageddon occurred and Kansas pumped out 35 points in that quarter, and the Jayhawks stole the win of all time for the program.
Fail: Hawkins is so fired, and CU is already talking with other candidates and is putting out feelers.

Nebraska 31, Iowa State 30 (OT)
Pass: Austen Arnaud tossed a whiffle ball into a stiff wind and it was picked off to end the game, and the Huskers found a way to survive. Cody Green had to carry the load as Taylor Martinez was injured. Green found a way to keep Nebraska's head above water.
Fail: It's hard to find fault in the valiant effort of ISU, but those 3 turnovers did not help matters.

Texas A&M 33, Oklahoma 19
Pass: Ryan Tannehill was not perfect, but his 2 TD passes were enough to give the Aggies a huge upset win over the Sooners.
Fail: The Sooners were held under 2 yards per carry on the day, and the hole got too deep. Goodbye national title shot (never really had one) and OU is in danger of playing in the Sun Bowl again.

Texas Tech 24, Missouri 17
Pass: Taylor Potts passed for 3 scores, and the Red Raiders got a much needed win to stay in the bowl hunt.
Fail: Blaine Gabbert has fallen off of the radar for Missouri. He only completed 12 of 30 passes on the day for 95 yards. Missouri is falling apart.

Kansas State 39, Texas 14
Pass: The Wildcats cruised out to a 39-0 lead before allowing the Longhorns to score a point. Collin Klein rushed for 127 yards and he and Daniel Thomas both rshed for 2 scores on the day.
Fail: Garrett Gilbert tossed 5 picks and the Longhorns' PRS number is now officially -8.

BIG EAST

South Florida 28, Rutgers 27
Pass: Jacob Sims recovered a Moise Planchard fumble for a TD, and BJ Daniels passed for 2 scores to lead the Bulls to victory.
Fail: Rutgers was limited to 238 yards of offense, and the Knights are in danger of being home for the holidays.

Louisville 28, Syracuse 20
Pass: Justin Burke passed for 2 scores as Adam Frohman's replacement and the Cardinals are sneaking up on a bowl bid in Charlie Strong's first season.
Fail: The Orangemen just could not generate any real second half offense, and they let a winnable game slip away at home. Syracuse will still make a bowl game this season.

Wisconsin 34, Purdue 13
Pass: The Badgers got a solid second half effort, and Montee Ball rushed for 127 yards and 2 scores to lead Wisconsin to the win.
Fail: Purdue gave it all they could on defense in the first half, but the offense stumbled, and the game got away in the second, and the inexperience of Sean Robinson was a killer as he tossed 3 picks for the Boilers.

Michigan State 31, Minnesota 8
Pass: Edwin Baker rushed for 179 yards and 4 scores as the Spartans put it into cruise mode enroute to an easy win.
Fail: I can't really beat up on the Gophers any more than I already have this season. It's just not challenging anymore.

Michigan 67, Illinois 65 (3OT)
Pass: Offense...Michael Shaw rushed for 3 scores, including the game winner, and Tate Forcier led the Wolverines to the most incredible win in school history. Illinois kept up with the Badgers point for point.
Fail: Defense...1237 total yards allowed in this game. So here's to you Mr. Robinson...get the hell out!

Iowa 18, Indiana 13
Pass: Ricky Stanzi passed for 290 yards, and the Hawkeyes survived against an intolerable Indiana Hoosier squad.
Fail: The receiver was wide open. He only had to catch the ball and Indiana wins...all he had to was catch the ball....just catch the damn ball...

Penn State 35, Northwestern 21
Pass: Joe Paterno won his 400th game. Pudding for everyone!!!
Fail: Did the Wildcats think that the game was over at halftime? Where did they go after that?

CONFERENCE USA

UCF 40, Houston 33
Pass: The Knights have made a major move the last two weeks, and they are now close to a birth in the CUSA title game. Jeff Godfrey continues to lead the way, as he passed for 294 yards and rushed for another 105.
Fail: This season started out with so much promise for the Houston Cougars, and now it is a nightmare. The defense could do nothing to stop the UCF attack. Dave Piland also threw a pick six that may have been the difference.

Tulsa 64, Rice 27
Pass: Some people thought that the Hurricane would have a letdown this week after the win at Notre Dame. They were wrong. GJ Kinne passed for 4 TDs.
Fail: The Owls are a one man show with Sam Mcguffie. Despite his great game, nobody else came to play.

Southern Mississippi 46, Tulane 30
Pass: The Golden Eagles scored on a passing play, a fumble return, and picked up a safety in the 4th quarter to pull away from Tulane.
Fail: The game was tied at 30 going into the 4th, and then Tulane crumbled under the pressure.

Navy 76, East Carolina 35
Pass: Dominique Davis passed for 413 yards and 5 TDs for ECU, and the Pirates still lost. 6 Different Middies rushed for TDs, and Navy rolled in the second half.
Fail: ECU's 4 turnovers and complete lack of any kind of defense were the dooming factors, and ECU lost at home in record fashion.

Marshall 31, UAB 17
Pass: Brian Anderson passed for 3 scores and the Herd won a rather meaningless game.
Fail: UAB lacks conistency. There was no focus, and a complete lack of a running game dismantled the Blazers.

Tennessee 50, Memphis 14
Pass: The Vols finally found someone that they can beat. I hate to tell them that Memphis is not in the SEC, so, yeah, they are still winless in SEC play.
Fail: The Tigers are light years away from being succesful. Larry Porter is still trying to find his bearings, and Memphis may be way to far off at this point.

UTEP 28, SMU 14
Pass: The Miners were desperate for this win. Trevor Vittatoe passed for 3 scores on the day.
Fail: SMU is missing any of the magic from last season right now. Kyle Padron looked good, but the rushing game never got to the stadium.

INDEPENDENTS

Air Force 42, Army 22
Pass: Tim Jefferson passed for a pair of scores and ran for 2 more, as the Falcons broke out of their slump.
Fail: The Cadets had gotten within 5 early in the 3rd, but then the wheels fell off of the wagon. Still shooting for a bowl though.

Ohio 34, Buffalo 17
Pass: Boo Jackson accounted for 3 scores, and the Bobcats won a huge game heading into an even bigger game this week.
Fail: Alex Zordich got beat to hell by the Bobcats D. HE only completed 8 of 26 passes on the day and was sacked 4 times while tossing a pair of picks.

Central Michigan 26, Western Michigan 22
Pass: Ryan Radcliff passed for 300 yards and a pair of scores, and CMU busted out of a major dry spell.
Fail: This loss could not have been good for Bill Cubit's job security.

Ball State 37, Akron 30 (2OT)
Pass: Keith Wenning hit Dave Schneider for the game winning score in the 2nd OT from 19 out.
Fail: Ball State turned the ball over 5 times, but yet still won, as the Zips had 3 turnovers themselves.

Temple 28 , Kent State 10
Pass: Mike Gerardi passed for a pair of TDs and Bernard Pierce rushed for another, and Temple is rolling again.
Fail: Kent State failed on every level, as they were held to 223 yards on offense, and gave up 465 yards to Temple on the day.

PAC-10

Oregon 53, Washington 16
Pass: LaMichael James rushed for 3 of 6 Oregon rushing TDs on the day, and Oregon is coasting to the national title game.
Fail: The Huskies actually only trailed by 5 in the early 3rd. Think about it.

California 20, Wahsington State 13
Pass: Shane Vereen rushed for two scores, and the BEars stumbled to a win in Pullman
Fail: Jeff Tuel was awful, passing for under 100 yards on the day.

UCLA 17, Oregon State 14
Pass: The Bruins Kai Forbath redeemed himself after 2 earlier missed FGs by nailing a 51 yarder as time expired to give the Bruins the win. The Bruins also found a leader at QB in Richard Brehaut.
Fail: The Beavers offense struggled badly all day long, and never got close to 300 yards. Ryan Katz did not have a great homecoming to the LA area.

Stanford 42, Arizona 17
Pass: Stepfan Taylor rushed for 4 scores, and Stanford dominated at home to maintain a possible Rose Bowl birth if Oregon advances to the title game. Andrew Luck added 2 passing scores.
Fail: Nick Foles returned for the Wildcats, but looked rather rusty, and the Wildcats attack was very disjointed at times. WOuld have been nice if the defense could have tackled Taylor at some point.

USC 34, Arizona State 33
Pass: The Trojans needed all 3 Matt Barkley TD passes to hold off the Sun Devils, and Joe Houston's FG in the 4th sealed the deal.
Fail: The Sun Devils gave it thier all, but a pourous defense did them in at the end.

SEC

Florida 55, Vanderbilt 14
Pass: John Brantley passed for 2 scores, Jordan Reed passed for one and rushed for one, and Mike Gillislie rushed for 2 more as the Gators dominated the Commodores.
Fail: Vandy used 3 QBs in the game, and they all sucked.

Kentucky 49, Charleston Southern 21
Pass: Coshik Williams rushed for 3 scores, and Donald Russell rushed for 2 more as the Wildcats survived a wierd 1st half to take out the FCS Buccaneers.
Fail: UK actually allowed CSU to play with them for a quarter and a half before the Cats hit the gas. Should never have come to that.

Georgia 55, Idaho State 7
Pass: A win is a win.
Fail: Are the Bulldogs really proud about a November win over Idaho State?

Auburn 62, Chattanooga 24
Pass: Just playing this ridiculous game cost Auburn the #1 spot in the PRS this week.
Fail: Did anyone actually think that the Mocs would make a game out of this? This game never should have been played at this late date.

LSU 24, Alabama 21
Pass: Les Miles used some trickery to hand Alabama their second loss of the season. The Mad Hatter marches on.
Fail: Bama loses their outside shot at a title game birth. It hurts knowing that you cannot defend your title.

Arkansas 41, South Carolina 20
Pass: The Hogs never left anything to chance in this game, and they battered the Gamecocks all day long. Knile Davis rushed for 3 scores.
Fail: Stephen Garcia fell into the tunnel leading to crapville again. 1 TD and a piar of picks. Terrible day for the Gamecocks, and now they have to beat Florida for a shot at the SEC East.

Ole Miss 43, UL-Lafayette 21
Pass: BRandon Bolden and Enrique Davis both nusted the 100 yard rushing mark for the day. An easy win for the Rebels, who need these wins.
Fail: The Rageless Cajuns were outmatched in every phase. Ricky Bustle is rumored to be heading out soon. He did not show for the Sun Belt conference call last week, and the writing is on the wall.

SUN BELT

Arkansas State 51, Middle Tennessee 24
Pass: Ryan Aplin and Jermaine Robinson both accounted for 2 scores on the day, as the Red Wolves blasted MTSU.
Fail: What was supposed to be a season f dreams has turned into a seaosn of nightmares for the Blue Raiders. Dwight Dahser tossed 4 picks.

Florida Atlantic 17, Western Kentucky 16
Pass: Alfred Morris rushed for a score, and Jeff Von Camp survived a horrible game to passfor a TD, and the Owls barely survived.
Fail: Bobby Rainey's 152 yards and 2 scores were just not enough for WKU.

Troy 41, North Texas 35
Pass: Corey robinson passed for 3 scores, and the Trojans got by pesky North Texas. The Mean Green has shown major improvement since Todd Dodge was let go.
Fail: Riley Dodge's 3 TD performance was flushed by a terrible defense this week.

FIU 42, UL Monroe 35 (2OT)
Pass: Darriet Perry rushed for his only TD of the day in the second OT to lift the Panthers.
Defense: UL-Monroe is a team without direction and focus. The defense was terrible.

Utah State 27, New Mexico State 22
Pass: USU came back from an early 14-0 deficit to take out NMSU in the Aggie Bowl.
Fail: NMSU was well on the way to claiming a win, and then they turned into themselves again.

Boise State 42, Hawaii 7
Pass: Kellen Moore passed for 507 yards on the day, and the defense shut down the nations best passing attack. The Broncos had 737 yards of offense on the day.
Fail: Hawaii never got off of the ground, and their offense folded like a cheap chair.

Fresno State 40, Lousiana Tech 34
Pass: Robbie Rouse rushed for 286 yards and 3 scores, while Ryan Colburn passed for 3 scores, and the Bulldogs rallied for the win.
Fail: Tech was held to just 12 1st downs on the day, and the offense never looked smooth. The defense completely crumbled as well.

Nevada 63, Idaho 17
Pass: Colin Kaepernick passed for 5 TDs on the day,and the Wolfpack dominated on the road.
Fail: The Vandal defense gave up 844 yards of total offense on the day. Shameful.
