2018 NFL Draft Grades: Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are coming off of another disappointing season, finishing 9-7. Of course, there was plenty of drama with the Zeke Elliott situation dragging on that caused some pain, and then came the post season cutting of Dez Bryant, and the draft weekend retirement of Jason Witten. With plenty of need at WR and TE, the Cowboys also had priority need at DL, OL, and LB as well. Could they skip the drama on draft weekend? Could they attack their needs? Let's grade the 2018 class for Dallas.

LB Leighton Vander Esch, Boise State
Sure, Dallas had a need for a LB, and the player and the value were solid, but it made me wonder if this team has any idea how much Dak needs weapons. Weird pick for me, even though it works on some levels.
Grade: B

OG Connor Williams, Texas
Great value, and a need filled, but again, Dak needs weapons, and with Bryant and Witten gone, when were they going to address the issue?
Grade: B

WR Michael Gallup, Colorado State
Finalyy, the Cowboys addressed their most glaring need, and Gallup had been undervalued during the entire process. He will be a great fit, and if the stars align, he could be a star.
Grade: A

DE/OLB Dorance Armstrong, Kansas
The Cowboys will love this underrated edge rusher who was highly under exposed while rotting away on a terrible Kansas team. A middle round steal.
Grade: A

TE Dalton Schultz, Stanford
Witten he is not, but he had a solid career at Stanford, and is more a traditional Y TE than a play maker like Witten. Had a 3rd round grade, but slipped to the 4th.
Grade: A

QB Mike White, Western Kentucky
White had a 4th round grade, and slid to the 5th. He gives the Cowboys a much needed developmental backup QB. Solid value and pick.
Grade: A

LB Chris Covington, Indiana
They get a need position filled for development late, but they got the player at a reach, and there was better value available. Former QB with a knee injury history.
Grade: C

WR Cedrick Wilson, Boise State
I am not sure how Wilson fell this far, but the Cowboys got a massive steal here, and Wilson has immediate impact potential. Great job here.
Grade: A

RB Bo Scarbrough, Alabama
The last pick for Dallas was another solid pickup, as Scarbrough gives the Cowboys a rock solid power back backup. He was not used enough at Alabama because of a deep stable, but that means he could just be coming into his own. Great value in the 7th, as he received a 4th round grade.
Grade: A

Priority needs filled in first 2 days: 3
Total Points: 30
Average Points Per Pick: 3.33
Grade: B
