2018 NFL Draft Grades: Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers finished 13-3 a year ago, but it can't help but feel like the window is closing on the current era of Pittsburgh dominance in the AFC North, and it's been a while since a Super Bowl title came calling despite regular season success. With needs at WR, OL, RB, LB, and S, what would Mike Tomlin and company do to get over the hump and push by the Patriots for AFC dominance in the playoffs?

S Terrell Edmunds, Virginia Tech
Edmunds may have vaulted himself up from a 5th round pick to a 4th as far as his grades suggested, but taking him in the first was just lunacy. There was a need, but their faith in this pick had better pan out, because right now, it looks like one of the worst picks in the 1st round, and it's not even close.
Grade: D

WR James Washington, Oklahoma State
He was not a perfect prospect, but he can play this game. He plays bigger than he is, and while not being all that fast, he certainly plays above his speed in games. He should be a star in Pittsburgh.
Grade: A

QB Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State
Let's face it...the end is near for Roethlisberger. He almost walked away a year ago, and he may not like that they did this, but it was for future protection. The Patriots could have learned something from this pick themselves.
Grade: A

OT Chuks Okorafor, Western Michigan
He is a raw prospect, and came late to the game, but he has talent, size, and ability. He will need a bit of coaching, but if he puts in the work, he is a starter for years to come.
Grade: A

S Marcus Allen, Penn State
He was a riser in this draft class who fell from a 3rd round grade to being a 5th round pick. The Steelers got solid value for him, and that matters on day three. He may develop into a potential starter down the road.
Grade: A

RB Jaylen Samuels, NC State
They got great value on this pick, as he fell from a 3rd round grade to being a 5th round pick.He is a bit of an enigma, because they have to figure out how to properly use him. He can be a RB, an H-Back, a TE, or just about anything.
Grade: A

DT Joshua Frazier, Alabama
Even in the 7th round, and at the end of it, this was a reach. They could have had him the following week as a UDFA, and drafted someone who they could have developed here instead. I just cannot see him making the roster out of camp.
Grade: D

Priority needs filled in first two days: 3
Total Points: 22
Average points per pick: 3.14
Grade: B
