The Saints had a solid season in 2017, moving to 11-5. The window is closing on winning time, as Drew Brees is coming to the end of his solid career. Would the Saints move to win for the future, or move to win now in this draft class, where they listed QB, WR, TE, OL, and DL as priority needs?
DE Marcus Davenport, UTSA
There were many rumblings about this player, but the Saints moved up several spots to grab him, and some have to wonder if that move was necessary, given the rawness of Davenport, and the fact that he was so erratically graded by different scouting services.
Grade: B
WR Tre'Quan Smith, UCF
The Saints reached here on a need, as Smith was graded as a late 4th round to early 5th round pick, and they nabbed him in the late 3rd. He has a chance to develop, but expecting a ton of him right away would be a bad move.
Grade: C
OT Rick Leonard, Florida State
The crazy reaching continued with this pick, as Leonard was graded as a UDFA, and many questioned his overall potential and ability. This was a lazy selection.
Grade: F
S Natrell Jamerson, Wisconsin
The reaching continued in the 5th round on a player who was graded as a 6th round pick, and the boot here was that S was not really a need here.
Grade: F
CB Kamrin Moore, Boston College
Whomever was incharge of this draft for the Saints should be fired. This was the second time the Saints used a pick on someone they could have had as a UDFA. There was no cohesive plan for this draft and this team, obviously.
Grade: F
RB Boston Scott, Louisiana Tech
As bad as this draft had gotten for the Saints, it bottomed out here. No grade and no evaluations. Another horrible and irresponsible use of a draft pick.
Grade: F
C Will Clapp, LSU
The finally found some decent value for a need position, as he fell two full rounds, but he is a backup at best, and will have to make the team out of camp. This draft was a disaster for the Saints.
Grade: B
Priority needs filled in first two days: 1
Total Points: 8
Average points per pick: 1.14
Grade: F
