2018 NFL Draft Grades: New York Giants

Train wreck is a term that does not really cover how bad things got in 2017 for the Giants. A 3-13 record, a benching of Eli Manning, and eventually, a fired head coach were just a few of the highlights that included a lost season for Odell Beckham. Could this draft class help turn the tide? with QB, RB, WR, OL, and DL listed as 5 primary needs, here are my grades for the Giants draft class.

RB Saquon Barkley, Penn State
The Giants stuck to their guns with the second overall pick, and stuck with who they had targeted all along, despite calls to draft the eventual replacement for Manning at QB. If they are going to go back to being all in with Eli, you have to give him tools to work with, and they did just that.
Grade: A

OG Will Hernandez, UTEP
It befuddled me that he was still on the board in the 2nd round, but there he was, and the Giants just could not rightly pass on him. One of the best players in the draft, and maybe the second best guard, Hernandez helps the Giants better protect Eli, and gives someone to blow open holes for Barkley.
Grade: A

EDGE Lorenzo Carter, Georgia
Carter will probably settle at OLB for the Giants, and had great value at the start of the 3rd round. He has the chance to develop into a starter, even if they needed a more formal DE here. I still like the pick.
Grade: B

DT BJ Hill, NC State
The Giants killed it again on this pick, as Hill gives them a run stopping threat in the middle at great value. He could be starting this season.
Grade: A

QB Kyle Lauletta. Richmond
Lauletta was yet another player who slid down to the Giants, and they grabbed a player who they can develop into the eventual replacement for Eli Manning, and did not knee jerk or panic to get him. Dave Gettleman did an amazing job up to this point in the draft.
Grade: A

DT RJ McIntosh, Miami
The Giants made another solid move to bolster their interior defensive line, as McIntosh could be a rotational player this year, and could have enough time to develop at their own pace. Another solid grab.
Grade: A

Priority needs filled in first two days: 3
Total Points: 23
Average points per pick: 3.83
Grade: A
