The Jaguars made a major move in the league last season, coming one game away from a Super Bowl. Finishing 10-6 was a huge move in the standings for a long struggling franchise, and this draft would be a key to cementing their climb moving forward. The Jaguars had needs at QB, WR, OL, LB and CB. Here are my grades for the picks:
DT Taven Bryan, Florida
Drafting at the back end of the first was a rarity for Jacksonville, and they lost themselves a bit on a pick that filled a spot that was not a priority need. Good player, but was the fit right?
Grade: C
WR DJ Chark, LSU
He was lost at LSU in an offense that barely got off the ground most weeks, yet he still managed to star when given the chance. This was a need, and the value was solid.
Grade: A
S Ronnie Harrison, Alabama
If he played CB, I would totally be over the moon for this pick. He doesn't, and I am not.
Grade: C
OT Will Richardson, NC State
Jacksonville filled a need for just the 2nd time in 4 picks. He had solid value as a 4th round pick, especially late, as he was sliding. Finding a starting caliber player in the 4th round is always a bonus.
Grade: A
QB Tanner Lee, Nebraska
Lee was a disaster at Nebraska after being serviceable, at best, at Tulane before he transferred. He was graded as a UDFA, yet the Jags swung on him in the 6th round. Dumb.
Grade: F
DE Leon Jacobs, Wisconsin
Jacobs had a low 4th round grade, but slipped all the way down to the 7th round. Still, I am trying to figure out how this was filling a need...
Grade: B
P Logan Cooke, Mississippi State
He was not even graded, and probably will not make the team, and did not fill a need. Another wasted pick.
Grade: F
Priority needs filled in first two days: 1
Total Points: 15
Point average per pick: 2.14
Grade: D
